Updates with ESPN removing Schilling from Little League World Series coverage

Curt Schilling, the former major league pitcher who is now an ESPN analyst, posted a tweet Tuesday in which he shared a meme that compares Muslim extremists to Nazis.

In a tweet that was up for about 10 minutes before being deleted, he wrote that “The math is staggering when you get to the true #s” and included a meme of Adolf Hitler with the words “It’s said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How’d that go?”

Schilling had not immediately tweeted a general apology, but replied to people who were tweeting their displeasure to him.

ESPN, in a statement emailed to The Post, said: “Curt’s tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company’s perspective. We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration.”

How can this be offensive to anyone, unless they think they're in the 5-10%?

I mean, they can just claim to be in the 90-95% of Muslims who aren't extremists.

I think the word "Nazi" has got them all excited.

However, I can certainly understand the (liberal) ESPN outrage over saying that life choices determine a person's path more than his/her color.

Shilling looks to have about as good of luck with Tweeting as he does investing his money in video game companies. I expect him to get walking papers because ESPN is scrambling right now to keep as many viewers as possible. Tweets like this usually get people dismissed permanently.

This. How dumb can this guy be?

Silly comments for Schilling to make. He's in the spotlight, he has to know that. I personally think ESPN's reaction was over the top. But, again, Schilling put himself in the spot where ESPN was allowed to bend to the PC crowd.

My assumption is this Meme started with some far right wing group, but does anyone know if these numbers are near accurate? 5-10% of Muslims seems extremely high. I would have guessed more like one in 5,000.

Well when you take into account that Islam is the biggest religion in the world, 5%-10% may be an accurate number. But when you actually "do the math" it may be a similar to that of 30% of Germans were Nazis. People aren't really interested in doing the math because they just see those two numbers and take it as gospel...Schilling included

Bunch of pussy ass political correctnes cowards.

Cry us a river, pussy. We didn't fire him. Maybe some hard ass anti-PC company will snatch him up. Hell maybe you can hire him as your marketing guy for your practice. Western Iowa seems like a perfect place for Schilling.

So Muslims are huge ESPN viewers Fredo?

I don't think ESPN is at the liberty of choosing who they do and don't offend. They are bleeding viewers as is, and can't afford to pick and choose[/QUOTE]
I have a hard time understanding that with all their sports coverage. Now I must admit I haven't watched SC or their so called "exposes" in forever.

^^ Since the quote function got the best of you this is a response to your above post

Do a little looking around and you'll find more articles. Probably best to educate yourself. You may even find a couple of those schools you supposedly coached for ;)
Fredo...I know what my record is...so does Izzy...and since I used the same resume for over 30 years maybe everyone else does as well...;)

He was an amazing ballplayer. Too bad he had to wreck it all with this stupid stuff.

Why is it stupid...I thinks Muslim extremists all need killed.....most common sense people would agree. Not saying all Muslims...Just the extremists.

Again you'll have to ask ESPN why they thought it was stupid. Like my last post regarding your older response in this thread, some other company who doesn't care about its image can pick him up and you'll be able to worship his every word again. Maybe go give him a follow on Twitter if you feel like he was wrongly punished. I'm curious your thoughts on his apology for what he said. The guy runs his mouth and then is too much of a pussy to stand behind what he said.

I don't even think you know what your record is. First you claimed 401, but your resume only had 377. So apparently you're just as confused as Izzy who could only verify 97.

Well Izzy would have been more believable if he stated why he only "found" 97 wins...and shown some documentation. Besides he missed tons of stuff that was later sent to him...or maybe he chose to...and if I only had "97" wins then as long as I was in coaching I would bound to have had over 500 losses but for some reason old Izzydore didn't think that was newsworthy. Big fraud dude and he has been mocked and laughed at for 5 years. I just wish I could have sued the bastard.

It'S chilling how easily he got yanked.

Would tweeting "Muslim extremists are a greater threat than imagined" be a punishable offense?

Are you aware that you're far more likely to die from a non Muslim terrorists than a Muslim one?

So why did you claim 401 but turn your resume in with 377? At this point I'm not sure why I care anymore. You don't answer any of the questions we've asked that you haven't been able to spin over the last 5 years. Unlike you this will be my last response regarding this issue. Izzy may have been a slimy journalist who was out to get you (his 2009 article was pretty positive towards you, but in 2010 you must have pissed him off somehow). Regardless of his actions, you seem to have a lot of loose ends and apparent fiction when it comes to your coaching history. Maybe everything is on the up and up, but he obviously found some things in your past that didn't line up and decided to write a story on it. I don't think his actions, should allow you to say that the two people who lost their lives today should expect that type of treatment because they're journalists and they ruin people's reputation.

Have a good night. Thanks for answering all the questions.

There are 1.57 Billion Muslims according to Google. 5% = 78.5Million, 10% obviously is 157Million.

Obviously it depends on how you define "Extremists" or "Muslim Extremists", but I think we can safely conclude "Terrorist". Do we believe there are the same amount of Muslim terrorists as there are people in, say, Nigeria? How about more than Russia? Japan? Mexico?

Obviously there are Muslims all over, and their terrorists can be from anywhere, but the generally defined "Middle East" only has 205Million people.

Considering that Muslim threat is lower than imagined, I'm guessing it would be as well.

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/US/01/06/muslim.radicalization.study/
Guess you didn't take time to read the article you linked. It's citing one study about the threat of radicalized Muslim-Americans. NOT Muslim extremists in general.

Regardless, we can go back and forth all night about the threat we believe to be posed by whoever.

Schilling should be able to opine as well without losing his job.

Congrats Fredo...it seems you finally got it...but I never had any doubt...you are quite exceptionally intelligent.

Quit being such a pussy and answer the question about his apology.

ESPN was a bit more lenient about discussing personal issues before. Fag bashing good, Muslim bashing bad? From a former ESPN scandal:

A Christian Group is calling for the suspension of ESPN the Magazine writer Chris Broussard, after Broussard told an interviewer that gay NBA player Jason Collins can't be a Christian because of his sexual orientation.

A group called Faithful America (motto: "Love thy neighbor. No exceptions.") has launched an online petition asking for ESPN to suspend Broussard for comments he made on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" on Monday, after Collins came out in an op-ed for Sports Illustrated.

"Chris Broussard's hateful attack on Jason Collins for being gay was an unacceptable misrepresentation of the Christian faith," the petition reads. "ESPN must immediately suspend Chris Broussard and guarantee that their network will never again be used for gay bashing."

Broussard drew a fair amount of Twitter reaction on Monday, when he said that homosexuality constitutes "open rebellion to God."

"Personally, I don't believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle, or an openly premarital sex between heterosexuals … if you're openly living that kind of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits. It says that that's a sin," Broussard said. "And if you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be — not just homosexuality, [but] adultery, fornication, premarital sex, whatever it may be — I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian, because I don't think the Bible would characterize him as a Christian."

ESPN told TheWrap in a statement Tuesday that it supports Collins' coming out, but stopped short of condemning Broussard's comments, calling them part of "a respectful discussion of personal viewpoints."

"We regret that a respectful discussion of personal viewpoints became a distraction from Monday's news. ESPN is fully committed to diversity and welcomes Jason Collins' announcement," the company said.

The sin of Curt Schilling was his failure to be politically
correct. ESPN is worried about its sponsors and does
not want to offend them. It is easier to fire him than
alienate some big sponsors of ESPN MLB.
