After 13 years and constantly battling them every 2-3 years on a lower rate I finally kicked them to the curb today.

man it feels good! They tried hard to keep me and used every tactic in the book but I told them it doesn’t make sense to pay $30 more a month for one missing channel (NFL network)

I’ve got all 3 TV’s streaming YouTubeTV and so far even with both kids on their iPads our WiFi is running like champ.

What is the standard amount of devices you can run at a time off one account?

We cut the cord (Dish) about a year ago. Couldn’t be happier. We went with Hulu. I think we currently have 5 devices hooked up. We had either Directv or Dish for over 25 years. I was an early adopter back in the mid 90’s solely to get Iowa basketball games.

Cut the cord in March after DirecTV wouldn't renew our discounts. Probably would have stayed with them had they done so. I'm really glad they didn't as we love Roku and Hulu. Much easier than I thought it'd be.

Dish doesn’t have nfl network.
Recently lost them. NBCSports Chicago is the one that pisses me off if we have baseball. That's been off for months. No HBO for over a year and a half. I'm getting closer and closer to switching. The problem is my wife, no pic, is again bringing up the cost of entertainment and cutting things. I get a bit defensive on that topic.

No Fox 18 and no Super Bowl was the deal breaker for me. They acted like it was no big deal to them. We’ll give you $5 off for something I’m paying $12/mo to have.

Switched to YTTV on March 1 and haven’t noticed much of a difference at all. Of course that’s only two weeks of sports until everything shut down. The on-demand content of YTTV is my favorite part.

Congrats! I think with YTTV you can have unlimited devices hooked to the account but you can only stream to 3 of them at any given point in time. I dragged my feet for years and years and years because I HATE change. Was just getting bent over by Directv to the point we gave them the heave ho. YTTV is a superior product for much cheaper.

3 is the limit, but you can work around that if needed by logging into the watch tv everywhere app using your YTTV account.

Yep...And the one thing I'm still waiting on is to see if they will get Marquee Network here in Chicago. I like YouTube TV, but not a fan of the big price increase they just hit us with. That, and I dont really like the onscreen guide which is a first world problem.

I’m in the minority but I still like dish and will keep them for now. I guess I like their dvr the best of all especially during football and basketball season.

I had them on pause since the live sports weren't happening. My cable company just launched a iTV streaming bundle package that had all the YTTV channels along with the Philo channels I enjoy for the same price as I was paying for everything before the price jump.
I'm actually really happy with the new service. YTTV has a very good UI but I'm liking the iTV interface better.

Have you considered not being poor?

Can you expound on that?
If you needed 4 or more people watching at the same time, one or more could log into the apps they wanted to watch and use the YTTV credentials. This doesn't count towards the 3 stream limit. It likely would be necessary unless it was being shared with more than one household.

I feel HBO is worth it and I like to subscribe to reward their original programming. Cutting the cord we had Now, but now that is Max, so there is an extended library of stuff you can watch. Watchmen and the Outsider were great originals. I like to dip into Band of Brothers and GoT on occasion when I feel like cuing up the greatest hits.

Who has more than 3 people watching at the same time anyway? My kids never watch it. They're on the internet sure, but not watching TV. If they are it's netflix or something. Kids don't do live TV.

Cut the cord a while ago. I was a little concerned at first with watching sports. I have more access now than ever and I can take my fire stick anywhere. I used lug my dish network box around.

Fair point. My 15-year old son mostly watches youtube videos, netflix, and espn+ for UFC. Daughter doesn't really watch much "tv" either mostly youtube with Alone on the History Channel, some HGTV and Food Network shows mixed in, along with anything Bobby Flay. We have 4 power consumers of content and we never have bumped up on the limit when you throw in Prime and Disney+, and I guess now Apple TV (in addition to Netflix and HBO Now/Max).

I like YTTV and hope they pick up Marquee but I don’t see it happening soon. I’ll be switching to Hulu live July 24th.

curious what the motivation to switch is? Have you done a free trial with Hulu+ to see if it is good enough? I would recommend doing that. We just didn't like it.

I'd guess regional Fox Sports Networks. I'm likely switching from YTTV (which I'm otherwise happy with) to Hulu on July 24 to watch Kansas City Royals baseball.

Being able to watch the Cubs and the price hike. That’s the good thing about these services, I can switch back quick and easy ignore I don’t like Hulu.

Directv keeps hooking me up with deals/prices and I can't get the sports channels/packages anywhere else without having to do numerous things to do what Directv offers just themselves. Directv for me for foreseeable future.

One of the bennies of only being beholden to the Hawks frees me of such calculus.

What are you paying currently for Directv? I'm debating switching back but just trying to get an idea...

110ish right now. Have 3 recordable dvrs and 1 that can just access. I'm going to call back soon and say I'm canceling and will upgrade to the Genie.

Thank you! I was looking at doing three wireless receivers with the Genie. First year it would be in the $85 range. Year 2 it bumps up to $120 or so. After the two year contract is up and when they really spike the rates.

Once your out of contract you have all the power.

It has been known to happen in THE_DEVIL household to have the wife (no pic) watching her tv, the kid watching on his phone and THE_DEVIL floating from room to room with the three other tvs on.

We don’t even have YTTV on the upstairs TVs because only the kids use those TVs and they just use them for gaming. So I’ve had it on both downstairs TVs and a phone at the most that I can remember.

Sidenote: I have not yet been able to pull the trigger on a tv in the master bathroom yet. One of these days I will give into my inner voice and just do it.

I’m really enjoying the Fire Stick 4K, if you haven’t taken advantage of the $25 off Amazon deal I would suggest you do so.

I decided to upgrade both my old Roku and the build in smart app technology on another TV because the fire stick is so much faster and easier to use.

Did you get Hulu Live? I hear that’s the best for live sports.

I understand why Dish is moving away from paying those high sports carriage fees, but when I move next month, I’m canceling. I really liked Dish, but now I can’t watch the Cubs or Blackhawks or the NFL Metwork.

As long as Dish has the Dishscapes channel, I'm good to go :) This month it's underwater landscapes!
