Damn classeyOn the postgame, Dolph said it was his last time in a Hawkeyes uniform or something to that effect
damn classyClassy, classy move by Fran to start Dale today. And awesome that Dale rose to the occasion and hit a long three to put Iowa on the board and get the day started right. Dale seems like a quiet, humble guy with some skills. It's a shame the Waterloo West product couldn't escape the injury bug.
Jones played in the first six games, Daily and Kriener also played enough during that time, so their red shirt decisions were already made before Jones got hurt again.Fran doesn't seem like he is a big juco guy and hopefully he sees that injuries kept this situation from being successful. I agree, last year might have been different with another shooter around and some rebounding help. This year would have helped early on, but I am guessing we likely would likely of had to redshirt at least one guy if Jones would have been healthy. Not saying that we have not been successful with the way things have turned out, but it may have changed the complexion pretty drastically with a healthy Jones. Glad he stayed positive contribution and Fran was able to start him on Sunday.
I believe during the game they said it was only his 3rd or 4th game of the year. Dailey was never going to redshirt. Fran asked him too, and he said no thanks. Its up to the player after all.Jones played in the first six games, Daily and Kriener also played enough during that time, so their red shirt decisions were already made before Jones got hurt again.
I had that same understanding about the injury to Jones in relation to the timing of redshirt decisions, but IIRC, there were questions about Jones need from the very beginning. What I was trying to say is that if they knew they had a completely healthy Jones, there may have been more consideration for a redshirt someplace and I get it is the player decision at the end of the day. Bottom line, we all wonder how effective a 11-12 man rotation can be, but admit it has worked for the most part this season which is a tribute to Fran and the players to work with that situation. Not many coaches get to look down the bench and realistically have 6-7 guys they can send in the game at virtually any time nor do you have many players sitting down on the 6-7th chair from the coach who think they have a chance to play every game. So far so good though.Jones played in the first six games, Daily and Kriener also played enough during that time, so their red shirt decisions were already made before Jones got hurt again.
Well we might really find out this week. Hopefully its four games in four days! Maybe we can run some of these teams out of the gym. The young hawks seem to be getting stronger the last few weeks. What a refreshing suprise its been.I had that same understanding about the injury to Jones in relation to the timing of redshirt decisions, but IIRC, there were questions about Jones need from the very beginning. I screamed "YES" when he hit that three — in a mostly-empty bar/cafe that was, at noon, more cafe than bar — undoubtedly annoying the handful of people enjoying their brunch.was really awesome to see that 3 go down, don't often catch myself jumping out of my seat two minutes into the game. That second one was almost down as well......would have been really nice.
was wondering how long he would play, then saw his defensive rotation and knew it was time.
good for him going out with a nice moment.
Would make a great story, but highly unlikely. First that he pay his own way, with no guarantee he'd play, and he's still got along way to get back were he can physically play on both ends of the court. Then theres the issue again with so many players who will be deserving of playing time. Frans already said he's not going to sit Garza and Nunge next year, and from watching their tape, I think they'll both contribute next season. Glad he got the start, and got to hit the bomb. Time to close the book.I watched an interview with Jones(I believe post game PennState.) In the interview he said he would like to play bball next year and did not rule out that it could be at IOWA. While he didn't say it he seemed to indicate that since all scholarships are taken, and if he chose to stay at Iowa that would only leave paying his own way to make it happen. I thought that was interesting and if he would do that, Iowa would have a very deep team next year.
