Tweaked a knee in practice and won't play tonight. Makes it even more important for Uhl to bring it tonight.

Fran quoted as saying, "He's talked to his mother... decisions need to be made." Some speculation here, but sounds like surgery is a consideration. A medical redshirt would benefit Jones' development.
Hasn't Jones already had a redshirt year?
I thought he did in JC. Can he have another now that he's D1?- don't know.Hasn't Jones already had a redshirt year?
If Jones is out for the year, do we look to maybe bring Hutton along instead of redshirting him?
We'd be looking for a Jess Settles type sixth year under the hardship waiver rules. My attitude is do what it takes to have the best knee to last a lifetime, be a student, and worry about an extra year on the court later.
Yes, you can.Correct me if Im wrong, can't you have a "red-shirt" year and then a "medical redshirt" year?? I thought I remember some guys a few years ago in football having both?
I wonder what the specific injury is? If it was a ligament tear I would think it would have been mentioned by now. Perhaps a severe sprain?Coach McCaffery just confirmed that Jones is likely gone for the season.
Assuming a medical redshirt is granted, counts against the scholarship limit, and IA/Jones pursues; that means we'd have no rides left for 2017 as it stands now.
Of course, it's very possible somebody leaves the team or the McCaffreys choose to have Conner go the preferred walk-on route. If neither of those scenarios play out, that means IA would get the one extra ride in 2018 to go along with Weiskamp as the only current available scholarship.
The thing is, IA is in on some good 2017 recruits - most notably Iowa City native now in IN Jack Nunge who reportedly grew up / still is a big Hawk fan. See this tweet...

2017 Castle (IN) 6-11 PF Jack Nunge (@jnunge30) will be a nationally known name sooner rather than later. 28 pts 12 rebs 6 blks tonight.
Lots of interesting scenarios / choices ahead...
Maybe. Fran can be selective with his schollys at this point.Baer is going to need a scholarship the way he is playing.
Baer is going to need a scholarship the way he is playing.
He certainly deserves one but he came to Iowa because he loves being a Hawkeye. He wont leave if he doesn't get one.
hawk-i-bob - I saw a similar, definitively stated post of yours in another thread. Are you a family member and/or know the family by chance?
P.S. I understand if you don't feel comfortable answering.
P.S.S. He's a heck of a player and seems like a great teammate.
His head coach at Bettendorf is my nephew.
I can tell you that Baer was thrilled to become a walk-on. The young man is a Hawkeye. I do hope there is a opening for him at some point but if not he will wear his spot on the team with Hawkeye pride & will contribute make no mistake about that.
The guy just has it. Always has. No one can tell him he cant play. Its not arrogance either. He has taken his natural talent and added to it with hard work. Tremendous BB IQ.
Credit goes to his high school coach for his encouragement. And to his family for supporting his dream to play for the Hawkeyes.
It's funny how many people wanted to argue with me that it was a potential benefit to be able to have Frans kids be walkons.
Thanks. I agree, the kid has "it" and you can tell he has really put the work into his game to become a 3 point shooter. I fully expect he will be a starter before he leaves Iowa, probably sooner rather than later. Kids like him make everyone else play harder and look better. I'll be shocked if he isn't on scholarship next year (if someone leaves), or the year after at the latest. His head coach at Bettendorf is my nephew.
