Saw him mentioned in other threads as the possible target for a big man for this years class. JUCO out of Tyler TX, but originally from Waterloo.

Anyone have any info on this kid. His videos he looks super athletic, good size, and good outside shooter. Could be a perfect match for what we need to fill in next couple of years.

have not seen his video, but have seen him mentioned, just curious as to why nobody on the Clown board is talking about him and have they offered or maybe UNI or Drake? if those schools have not offered then why is so imperative for IA to have him?

Can't speak to UNI or Drake, but why would ISU? They're in the running for a top 15 player in Diallo.

I don't think the point of this thread or even talking about him is that he is "imperative" to have. He just seems to fill a possible need as well as the fact that interest has been shown.

The tapes I saw he is only shooting threes (effectively)-I didn't see any signs that he was a great inside player.

I don't think he has super polished post game and is a smidge undersized at 6'8 but dude has some hops and long reach. Kind of reminds me of a Basabee but a little quicker and a much better shooter.

JUCO's are offered to fill a need. Are ISU, UNI, and Drake looking to add a PF, after losing 4 plus a Center over 2 seasons, and bringing in 2 forwards in the same period of time? Whether they offer, or not is not a good gauge of whether Iowa should offer a JUCO.

It has been reported that Jones didn't play last year due to a knee injury. Did he get a medical redshirt and therefore has three years of eligibility left?

Jones has been at Tyler CC for three years. One was a redshirt year due to injury. Weird thing is I did not know Juco's had injury redshirts, or if that is what they are called. But, the main point is he has two years of eligibility left.

Didn't realize he had already sat out a year due to injury. That means he should be a physically well developed 4th hear player by the time he lands on campus. Another plus. Really an intriguing recruit.

From the info I have read. Dale Jones was 6'5" when he graduated from Waterloo West. I heard he grew about 3 inches in his freshman year ( I believe I read he was a young 18 year old entering Tyler CC- late bloomer, go figure). I gather he has developed more post moves to compliment his outside game. I heard his HS coach felt Dale hung out at the arc too much to be a better scorer. The videos on I found on YouTube are from his Waterloo West days. Dale (#23) played against Jarrod Uthoff (#43) in the 2011 substate final. Uthoff's Cedar Rapids Jefferson team won(Not sure).

Jones was a 2012 recruit out of Waterloo West. He missed all of 2013-14 season at Tyler with knee injury but came back strong this year. He would have been in the Woodbury/Gesell class out of HS.

As noted he's grown 2-3" since HS and added strength, but is still a bouncey player that can really shoot the ball well from deep. High volume shooter but also a high percentage shooter.

Tard, did you ever think this is all speculation and Fran knows what he's doing? If Fran likes him he'll pursue if not, he won't pursue.

Jones seems like a great fit at Iowa. He's from Iowa. Shoots the three well -- always something this team needs. He's a JUCO so he won't be in the same class as the other six players we've signed. We have immediate need for a forward so he has the opportunity to get early playing time.

I think the only downside is that we'd be better off signing a true Center. I think we can get buy with Woodbury and the forwards we have next year. But that puts a lot of pressure on McCaffery to sign a true Center next year. McCaffery was originally going after Ike at the same school as Jones but seems to have shifted interest. Ike is more of a true center, but McCaffery has always been insistent that you take the best player available.

Listened to the pod cast today. It was the first mention of Dale Jones, sounds like he s coming to Iowa. 6'8" 220lbs. fran wants him because he s versatile can shoot the 3 or take to the hole and slam it.

He's coming for a visit. I like his energy and ability to defend and steal passes. Very athletic and quick.

Seriously! A Rick Roll? I thought those dark days were firmly behind us.

My thoughts exactly. I was equally pissed at myself and Hawks 2405, lol!

Rick is never gonna give you up, he's never gonna let you down, he's never gonna run around and desert you.
He's never gonna make you cry, he's never gonna say goodbye, he's never tell a lie and hurt you.

Rick is NEVER going away and you can be thankful for that. You will never get that from any other guy...

Is Jones the top target? When is he visiting?

If he is visiting soon, then the speculation of Anderson, Edwards, Woods, etc. Is no longer.

When Fran said earlier that he had a player "on the hook," I'm assuming that was Williams and not Jones?

Yep he is the top target. He is visiting next month.

When he commits, which is expected, Iowa will be full in terms of scholarships.

Well, if we were looking for someone that has NBA range, he's the guy, apparently. Only saw one post move, though.
according to his stats, he was the 2nd leading defensive rebounder in the league. 6th for total rebounds. so he spends time defensively under the basket anyway. offensive rebounds he was 72nd in the conf. so offensively it sounds like he spends most of his time around the perimeter.

not sure how accurate those numbers are, as they have him only playing 3.5 minutes per game in conf. while scoring at a 17pt/conf game clip. that's 195 pts per 40 minute game!! something doesn't add up.

but if his 3 pt stats are accurate, we could have an answer for wiltjer. 45% from distance.

Or as Dolphin always says: "flush it"

Yeah, you can throw the min played stats out the window as many of their Conf. games it just lists 1 min for anyone that played in the game. That's what is skewing the data.

Yeah it's a horrible saying. He also describes shots as lollipops sometimes. It is hard to get a handle on what the hell he means. One time he said a player freightrained an Iowa player. I didn't know what that meant. Is that when two Hobos trap you in a boxcar and take your wallet and beat you up? I have no idea what Dolph is talking about most of the time. And I only listen to his "highlights" he plays while waiting for the coach's interview to start. Sometimes when a big man makes a bucket dolph will say he "rams it in there" You can't make this stuff up, unless you are Gary dolphin I guess.

I think freightrained is when the Iowa player is running down court on defense, and 5 opposing players lined up, one behind the other, blow past said player.
