As Fran would say, he picked up 2 quick fouls and sat most of the half and that got him sideways and he never got into the flow of the game.

Save it guys.

He isn't here yet, he could still get wise and go somewhere else When we have him in a Hawkeye uniform we can play reactionary, bi-polar fan and skin him alive all we want.

(Smiley face indicating attempt at humor.)

I think I am a little skeptical of any Juco players right now.

Being from the cedar valley and following local sports, I do find it a bit odd I don't even remember him at Waterloo West, so he must have not stood out at all in high school.

Good for him for developing, I guess.

If he is the best big option, I guess go for it. I wouldn't expect him to come right in and be this inside force that can even come close to spelling Woody though.

We need a guy that could POUND down low, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Fran knows what he needs, but I also wonder if Jones is going to give Iowa the inside presence, especially on defense and rebounding, that we will need with most of our bigs graduating the past two years. I am uncomfortable with Woody as the only real option to guard true centers, or even physical 4s. I guess we can try to trade 2s for 3s, but we are going to need defensive rebounding by committee going forward.

I'm not trying to be overly negative. I was just pointing out that he didn't have a great game against Connors State. Kind of ironic since I believe that was Willie Atwood's school last year. Obviously, the Trey Dickerson thing didn't work out so it's a little disconcerting that we are going after a guy that is kind of off the radar with the last scholarship but hopefully Fran can find us a diamond in the rough.

I really was just trying to be funny. Neither post was bad.

Most JUCO's are off the radar unless you follow them and watch some JUCO BBall. The Tyler program is led by a guy that spent a lot of time in Iowa, and Jones played in Waterloo and for Barnstormers. I like the offer because he's a shooter, and can play PF, plus he seems like a comparatively stable JUCO. I'm concerned with going small at Center, but unless Fran comes up with another scholarship, it looks like that's what we'll have when Woody is out. Centers are in high demand in the Spring.

I wouldn't be if we didn't play in the B1G, but we do.

Imagine trying to play the MSU's, OSU's, and Wisky's without significant low post presence(s).

This will not end well, unless we are just going to try to start throwing "Davidson ball" out there. Which again, would probably be a recipe for disaster in this league.

B1G is a physical conference, unfortunately. I think I see what Fran's plan is. I just don't know if it is going to work in conference.

Speaking of Diamonds in the rough. Looks like one slipped away from Bo Ryan.

Michigan State's bigs this year included no one above 6'9". To which someone will reply, but they are bruisers and I will say, yes, 240 and 245.

After that, other than a couple 6'7" scrubs, their tallest guy was 6'6".

Yeah it's a horrible saying. He also describes shots as lollipops sometimes. It is hard to get a handle on what the hell he means. One time he said a player freightrained an Iowa player. I didn't know what that meant. Is that when two Hobos trap you in a boxcar and take your wallet and beat you up? I have no idea what Dolph is talking about most of the time. And I only listen to his "highlights" he plays while waiting for the coach's interview to start. Sometimes when a big man makes a bucket dolph will say he "rams it in there" You can't make this stuff up, unless you are Gary dolphin I guess.
Dolph doesn't really know basketball so he doesn't use common basketball phraseology.

He just makes it up as he goes and there's really no way to know what's going on in the game.

If you watch a game and listen to him at the same time it's pretty hilarious.

Personally, I recall as a young man, the time I was alone with my girlfriend who was about HALF free spirited. Only enough to make it worse than not at all, if you know what I mean. It was in my apartment and my television was on to a basketball game.

The phrases only made matters worse. I could have killed the announcers.

In his senior year of high school Jones averaged 17.8 points per game while shooting 46% from the field, 34% from three, and 84% from the free throw line. So he was a good player in high school.

How was his defense? We are losing some serious defense. Rebounding, blocking, denial, we are losing tons on the D end. How was Dale's D?

First, the question "How was Dale's D?" made me laugh.

Second, his high school stats (assuming their accuracy) indicate that he was not overly active on the defensive end as he averaged less than 1 block and less than 1 steal per game.

From his videos it is obvious he is very athletic. Defensive instincts are important, but overall anyone as athletic as Jones should not have a problem being at least an adequate defender.

My guess is that if Jones is on the team next year, he will primarily be a contributor on the offensive end.

Dale Jones is your classic late bloomer....so you cant really look at his high school days considering it was over 3 years ago,,,and he has grown 4-5 inches. What is interesting is it seems once again Fran was ahead of the curve when it came to spotting Jones. Seems (according to some people in the know)...a number of D1 schools are now trying to get in on Jones. Late to the dance.

IKE headed to UCLA...seems to be interesting possibility.

Michigan State is going to be good again next year. Their guards Forbes and Tum Tum are good as well as bigs.

Not related to Jones, but Mike Edwards is apparently hearing from Duke and UCLA now too. Dude has absolutely blown up. Would be totally ok with either one at this point.
