Damn. Tough luck, Hawks....

I took my doggos out for a walk around sunset here. Along the way, a kettle of 100+ hawks came quietly soaring over us at relatively low altitude. Eerie. I probably should have known it was not a good omen.

If Sullivan learned one thing today, it should be that he needs to learn to move to his left. The handedness of the offense got exposed at the end.

Trying to remember the last time we went 50+ yards to set up a game-winning or game-tying score at the end of a game. Iowa is comically horrific in those situations.
It was a minor miracle Iowa got the ball back when Kirk punted on 4th & 2 w 3 minutes left. Should have let Stevens try a 63 yd FG at the end. That was as close as we were getting it. Complete ineptness.

Not luck, the Hawks earned the outcome. Conservative (always) and inept (often) offense is usually compensated by really good D. This year's defense is just a bit less effective, and suddenly 10-3 becomes 8-5.

Yeah, with Iowa's vaunted defense I figured if the offense scored 24 points then the game is a stone-cold lock.

yeah all they had to do was play a bit loose (on O) like they did in the first half. sure they had a 10 point lead early in the 3rd but curling up in a ball was uncalled for...it's just another bowl game for fun, why not play like it...and the defensive secondary is a basketcase

Reminder: With this loss KF falls below the 60% winning threshold for HOF eligibility. We have him for one more year.

8-5 with an Emerald Bowl loss in year TWENTY SIX. Part of me respects your fanbase for sticking with Ferentz though. A vocal part of the Buckeye fan base was wanting to run Ryan Day out of town for going 13-1, 7-1, 11-2, 11-2, 11-2, & 10-2.

1-4 vs the team up north will get you that.

I can't believe Iowa punted down by three with 3-something minutes left in the game.

Ohhhh buddy, let me introduce you to Kirk Ferentz.

That was nothing.
Amen. But that didn’t even turn out to be a bad decision. Our shooting ourselves in the foot on three of four downs on our drive with over a minute and a half left was the bigger problem. Go back to their winning drive and we shot our selves with a needless extra shove out of bounds as well. Uncharacteristic of typical Iowa teams.

Eh, it is what it is. At least they looked like they were ready to play. Bowl games don't mean anything.

do you think Iowa is a legit playoff contender? How many times in the past ten years would they have made the 12 team playoff?

Iowa's defense this year has not lived up to expectations. I'm not saying they were bad, but normally if our offense doesn't leave them on the field the entire game or put them in a bad position you can count them to make a stop. This year's secondary hasn't lived up to Parker's usual standards. It was an entertaining game. Unfortunately Iowa lost the turnover battle and committed some uncharacteristic penalties. Disappointing end to the year, but come next August I'll be excited for the 2025 season to start!

There's a saying about luck - that luck is the residue of preparation.

Missouri was better prepared for today's game. They played a lot better overall game than Iowa did.

THEY had "luck" on their side, and deserved to win.
