Dana Altman to the Final Four...

Fact.... I watched Creighton for many years here in Omaha and your comments make me believe you have not. Altman actually teaches pressing & aggressive defense and I have no doubt he would have had some success at Iowa. Fran needs to scrap the theory that his teams can just outscore teams with a position-less motion offense and minimal defense and weak rebounding. The Hawks have a lot of young talent coming back and to this point in his tenure I have seen some good offensive teams & very poor defensive teams and an inconsistent effort in games. Altman is no doubt more highly regarded in coaching circles and I could care less if the players are all Rhodes Scholars if they can bring championships.

This exactly.

Until we embrace full defensive and rebounding effort we will not win consistently when it matters. I have said it for years now.

It's partly because I didn't need to, but mostly because I just don't care..........about Creighton that is.

The discussion was about Altman vs. McCaffery. At this point in time Altman>McCaffery and it's not real close. I want nothing better than to see the Hawks at least close to winning a B1G title and some success in the NCAA tourney.

Oregon never had issues with recruiting for basketball. Even during the last few Ernie Kent years, he was pulling good players from across the nation. I think he had a solid connection in Chicagoland towards the end which was one reason his name was brought up at Iowa after Lickliter was tossed.

Ernie just couldn't coach. He had a couple of solid tournament runs with collections of skilled guards who carried the team (Ridnour, Jackson, Freddie Jones) and then Brooks, Tajuan Porter, Hairston, and I can't remember the other guy. But he was an Oregon guy so he lasted longer than he probably should.

Altman is 58 years old. How the hell long do you think he plans to coach to wait for the Kansas job to open? Self is younger than Altman and also the fact there's zero evidence ever Bill Self has any inclination whatsoever to leave Lawrence. Those close to the Jayhawk program believe Self will retire at KU--and that will be another 10+ years.
Kansas, another program who the NCAA continues to ignore. Larry Brown, Roy Williams and now Bill Self none of which are "Above Board" as far as recruiting practices and ethics. Agree that Bill Self has no reason to leave when he can do anything he wants with no institutional control.

Altman was initially very interested in coming to Iowa, but was extremely disappointed in the lack of resources Iowa was willing to put into the program, therefore changed his mind. I have a feeling that Kansas State promised more resources toward the program than they actually gave him, which resulted in his short stint there. Just speculating on this point but a similar Iowa scenario possibly played a role in his one day at Arkansas.

Nah, Altman was just genuinely creeped out by the Arkansas fanbase (and for good reason), and decided, "Nope, f*** this. I'm out."
