for Baseball.

Sorry if this has been reported previously, but I had not seen it if so. He was Iowa's Mr. Basketball this year apparently, and I know others mentioned he was a pretty good athlete in other sports, but wasn't getting as much love from DI schools for hoops as he wanted (as I recall). Appears he was drafted in the 39th round as a lefty pitcher by the Twins as well.

Doubt he walks-on the Kentucky Basketball team, so apparently his Basketball days are over from a collegiate standpoint.

The kid is just a natural athlete. Iowa Mr. Basketball, 2 time 1st team all-state, led Iowa in scoring and rebounding as a junior. 41% career 3pt shooter, demolished Sioux City career scoring record. Halfway through HS he decides to play football and sets records at QB (he put up something like 600 yards of offense in one game IIRC)

He has been clocked with a fastball in the low 90s this Spring. Hit a grand slam to win a game last week.

Best of luck to him. You never know but I think you will hear more about Tillo some where down the road several years from now.

good question...Is Kentucky's baseball program considered to be 'elite'?. I know IA's program has been down until this year.

They've made 2 regionals in the last 4 years. Not this year, but did make it last year.

Iowa has had (well, until the draft the last few days) a full baseball class (signed, sealed, and delivered) for months now, including several local pitching prospects. It sounds like he was kind of a late bloomer in baseball and this Kentucky opportunity just came up recently.

At the point that Iowa would have had to think about recruiting him for baseball, he still probably thought he was going to be a D1 basketball player.

Heard he got 70% scholarship which is really good for baseball. (11.7 total scholarships for entire program allowed)

He was also drafted this week.

As mentioned, iowa was full but also got impression that they weren't in contact until late but UK was most aggressive of teams.

Have to wonder with Comito signing after being drafted, if that frees up $ that could be used now to offer Tillo. Probably too late but the lure of playing in home state can be strong with some.

He blew up lately in a couple camps hitting 88 in one camp and 90 a few weeks later.

Great info, thanks!

What is it with the Twins and Kentucky players/recruits? They have three pitchers on their AAA roster who were team mates there. This years #2 pick, is a Wildcat. This years #3 pick, along with Tillo are Kentucky commits. Seems like one or two area scouts have a lot of sway in the Twins personnel department.
