I said on numerous occasions Kirk ferentz needed to be shown the door. Kakert showed me the door instead and rightfully so. Seeing Kirk and the lines on his face spoke to me today. It's an astounding feet in today's college football atmosphere to sustain such longevity, when you have thousands of jerkoffs like me looking for immediate gratification. Well, I'm more than satisfied with the job he's done this year and the changes instituted. Even Greg Davis gets a nod from myself. I'm not apologizing for wanting more from my football program, just thankful the administration gave Kirk more respect than I did.

Great post. Hats off to Kirk, his staff, and the players for making some adjustments, rededicating themselves, pulling together as a closely-knit group, and shocking the world -- many Iowa fans included.

And congrats to Greg Davis, too. The offense has been more open and creative this year, and it's paid off. Yes, we got conservative in the second half today, but it's hard to argue against that, considering the weather and the score. That said, he did call some great plays today. Two that come to mind were the TE throw-back to Krieger Coble that converted a 1st down inside the NE 10 on 2nd and long (1st time we've run that play all year, as far as I can recall) and the waggle and TD throw to a wide-open Kittle, which I believe came on the same drive.

I'll echo that sentiment, but I feel justified about being a jerkoff when I was being a jerkoff cuz they basically changed everything that "we" said needed to be changed and now we're perfect. Well done, Captain Kirk, GD, Parker, and, last but not least, Hawkeye Report free board. Team effort :)

Let's take care of business in the title game, yall.

Since you wanted Kirk to be shown the door, as did many Hawkeye fans a year ago, is the buyout the only thing that kept that from happening? It really worked out, obviously, in hind sight, but where would Iowa be today had they actually pulled the trigger like so many wanted to do last year.

No, the buyout coulda been done. AD Barta wanted to stay the course, and for his sake, he's lucky it panned out as it did. Now he has a job for life.

Of course u feel justified - that's how people make them feel about themself. Talent dictates what u do and how u look. We didn't have the talent at running back we do this year, our linebackers matured and grew and we made a hard decision at QB. Get over urself - fans talk so much of course they are right. They pull all the "right" and gloss over all their wrong comments.

I remember when Texas fans were posting vitriol about Greg Davis. You would have thought that he was solely responsible for derailing the Texas program. You can have him Iowa, is what they said. Today, Texas is 4 - 7. Mac Brown, the guy that fired Davis to save his own butt is a talking head. So, there's all kind of satisfaction in this season. But I don't regret that it was thousands of fans that held Kirk's feet to the fire. If we hadn't, this season might not have ever happened.

I think you might be giving the fans too much credit but I would like to know what made KF switch to Beathard right away. The way it was announced was out of character.

- Fair point about the linebackers. Jewell has grown into a man and Neimann has been a great addition. Cole Fisher has given Bower time to properly develop.

- We absolutely did have the talent at RB that we did last year.. THEY WERE ALL STUCK BEHIND WEISMAN! It's difficult to get the edge with a fullback and the box was loaded every single god damn play, which leads me to my next point....

- CJB vs Jake Rudock was NOT a hard decision. If talent dictates what you do, THEN WHY THE HELL WAS A QB THAT JUST RAN THE TABLE SITTING THE BENCH BEHIND A KID WHO CAN'T THROW OVER 15 YARDS? Rudock's talent definitely dictated how shitty we looked at times last year.

I think this is a lesson on patience. It would have been easy to fire, except for the buyout, Ferentz but it was certainly no guarantee that Iowa would have hired someone who was better. In fact, it is much more likely that Iowa would have taken a step back.

I say this and admit that I really wanted Davis fired last year but it takes time to learn a system. It can't have been good for ISU to have had like 5 offensive coordinators in the last few years. The positive of the pressure that coach faced is that it shook him out of the complacentness that had grown in the program. I think naming Beathard the starter showed the whole team that jobs were not secure and would have to be earned.

Greg Davis and Brian Ferentz have done an good job marrying the play action pass game to the run game. They had been somewhat disjointed the past three years. Davis has also tweaked his passing game to better fit Iowa's personnel.

Wadley fumbled, canzari, Daniels hurt and Daniels weight heavier. Players grow and improve at different points and times. Jake is playing very well at Michiagan this was not a no-brainer. PERFECT EXAMPLE is Cole F at linebacker. He's playing great his SR year but had to mature into this!

I think you know why the rbs didn't play much. In fact, the reason why Weisman started playing in the first place. Injuries. And the rbs have all had injuries this year. ns 15 yds. is a bit of a exaggeration, don't you think?

Damn boy.......... You must have been brutal. Like a bowl of ditch weed, most of us were only harsh.

Great points. It also goes to show how we all, myself included, spend way too much time picking apart what a player cannot do instead of what he can, We only focus on the things that go wrong or are not perfect. Fisher is a great example as it sounds like he approached the staff in August just asking what he could do to get into a role. They gave him a look and we found a 'great story'. He has not been perfect but no player is and he's done an outstanding job in total.

I recall a couple of seasons ago the endless debates on Canzeri. Many posters talked about his lack of size and his low yards per carry at that time saying he would never be viable. He has had a monster year and look at the plays he has made in the run game and that 42 carry effort against IL when we need it most!

Bottom line is 12-0 baby!

Canzeri saw action in 12 games last year. Injuries were not a huge issue with him. Still, 2nd fiddle behind the Hebrew Hammer even when fully healthy. He didn't score a TD last year and now he leads the B1G in TDs.

Wadley is the exact same back this year as he was last. Still a fumbler. The bottom line is that Kirk wasn't willing to play the risk to get the reward. He torched Northwestern when he got his proper opportunity.

Daniels could have been just as effective as Weisman last year if he got the reps.

This year hasn't been a lesson in patience. It's been a lesson on getting the best players on the field and letting them play ball with the confidence that this is the best unit that we have to offer. The lesson played out in full force in the Pitt game last year, but it took several games to figure it out.

I am believing it most likely had something to do with the split of the team on QB's. Choosing CJ because most of the returning players wanted to see him at QB.

I was a critic of Kirk last year because of several things. Even he admitted he wasn't giving the effort he should. Mentioning how he looked back at his interviews and saw a guy he didn't want to be. I don't know if it was fan pressure or Barta but something caused him to make changes.

Ultimately, I respect the change he made a qb because jake was not getting it done here. In my opinion Cj is kirks saving grace. His leadership is above anything jake brought to the table and the rest of the team knew it last year. It just took Kirk a little longer to realize it but he did eventually get it. For that reason he has won my respect back.

Go Hawks!!!!

I love the mental gymnastics of the Fire Ferentz Fashion in jumping back on the bandwagon. First, the classic non-apology apology, I was wrong but right to be wrong. No, you were one of many petulant trolls whose collective tantrum like wailing prevented civil discussion of our beloved Hawkeyes.

I feel justified about being a jerkoff when I was being a jerkoff cuz

Aside: Life lesson for the Fire Ferentz Faction, you were being a jerkoff cuz you are a jerkoff. At a minimum take a look at your tendency to behave as a jerkoff.

they basically changed everything that "we" said needed to be changed and now we're perfect. Well done, Captain Kirk, GD, Parker, and, last but not least, Hawkeye Report free board. Team effort :)

The naiveté and narcissism of the troll section of the Fire Ferentz Faction comes full circle to claim responsibility for that which they hindered. The Hawkeyes are perfect;if you had any role at all (of course not) it was to hinder not help. They changed nothing fundamental to the success of this season. Difference is simply execution and one heartbeat mentality, which means winning because THATS FOOTBALL.

I suspect that this troll section of the Fire Ferentz Faction is behind the internet reputation of Hawkeye faithful. Can't bitch about the Hawks, hear me Herbstreit!

You know, I don't think I am alone here when I say I think it is time to move on from the Weismann and JR bullshit....I am going to politely say STFU please and thank you

Amen.

Kirk was/is loyal to a fault. It's both his most aggravating and most admirable trait, depending on the situation.

Funny thing is that the only people on here bringing up weisman and JR vs CJB argument are the ones who were predicting iowa at 5-7, 6-6, some even worse....since they look/looked like complete jackasses they constantly bring up stupid BS that most of us could care less about....even if it took a 7-6 season to have this season I could care less...this is fricking awesome .....12-0 and you are worried about Weisman playing last year (and not the special teams and defensive play last year)?!?!?!?!?! SMH/WTF?!?!, dude(s) this is so awesome. sorry frantastic that KF is still here and will retire when he wants, sorry that KF has now surpassed Fry as the GOAT (or at least Modern Day GOAT), sorry KF will be BigTen coach of the year (again), sorry KF will be at least a finalist for National Coach of the year (again)maybe win it...actually I am not sorry, your miserable KF bashing and constant negativity is just....just stop man....who cares who ran the damn football last year, who cares who was under QB, good/bad/indifferent everything has led to this awesome and euphoric state that is Iowa Football

Unfortunately he and the other guy will be bringing this up if we win 3 straight national championships. It's really quite odd

We are winning but it looks like to me they are slowly reverting back to the old way of thinking. Jmo

I also want to give Kirk and staff props for switching Mitchell. He has developed rapidly and has remained a weapon on third down. Should give him a few carries a game to avoid tipping pass every time he checks in.

if he plays the obvious wrong QB, features a FB for no good apparent reason, kneels out the half with 1 min+& timeouts remaining, runs off tackle on 3rd and 12, punts on 4th & 1 on an opponents 30 and it goes in the end zone, his offense shows that he doesnt understand a 2:00 min drill or how to coach it, and or goes back to misusing TO's to potentially costing us a game then yeah I'll probably go back to being critical.

be a dumbass coach and some folks will notice the dumbassery.

What do you think Nebraska's fans think of Reilly after yesterday? if i were an UNL fan i would be very unhappy with the AD right about now...

this year i've had very little to comment on other than be a cheerleader around here. Go Hawks!

You claim to be this big chearleader on here but that is down right false....any and every opportunity you get on the football board you bitch and moan like a 7 year old girl making excuses on why things did not go your way....how many times have you brought up Weisman and/or QB situation from LAST YEAR during the season this year?!?!?!?! While the rest of us are watching this masterful performance and enjoying the shit out of it you are trying to come up with excuses on why you should not feel like a complete jackass (which you should, do not kid yourself)...you doubted the Hawkeyes this year, you continue to hate on KF, and you continue to contend that your opinion is fact and should be taken that way....EAT YOUR CROW AND MOVE ON

i doubted the Hawks this year preseason because i had a pulse and a brain during 2014. there were thousands just like me. even Kirk called it "bad football." part of that is coaching.

Knowing how loyal and stubborn KF has been during his career at Iowa why should anyone think the changes that he and the program made were possible?

also, with your posting pattern today i suggest you try Xanax or maybe have another drink.

Yes there were many that doubted the Hawks, they have moved on from last year, long ago....you have not! All I am saying is please just move on....after you get your full dose of crow of course. You know when we were 6-0, 8-0, and then 9-0 I figured you would join the rest of us in enjoying this season, but here we are at 12-0, playing for BigTen title, 5 nice trophies, etc etc. and here you still are, still clamoring about this and that and to then add the fact that you are a complete narcissist in thinking that we should thank you for your vile negativity....as if the coaching staff comes on to the rivals board for their off season professional development is just beyond me...you have been less and less vocal with each passing week (for obvious reasons), but it has been almost 12 months of your crap so forgive me if it is getting just down right old
