Kirk Ferentz announced on Thursday that Deavin Hilson is leaving the football program.
“Deavin has decided to focus on academics with the goal of graduating next August,” Ferentz said. “We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best in the future.”
Hilson, a junior defensive back from Des Moines (North), played on special teams in five games this year.
He didn't register any stats in five games this season. Prior in his career, he had shifted from playing running back to defensive back. He finishes his career at Iowa with three total tackles.
