Debbie Downer thread, predictions for next year?

Maybe third in B1G, lower in B1G Tourney, we'll win 1 and maybe 2 games in National Tourney, no best player in the nation award, 4-5 losses on the road, but maybe none at home, that's how I see it

Joe T, Frederick, Keegan, Nunge, and either Ulis or Weezy? Much more athletic than what we have now. Likely could be pretty good next year too.
This would be my take too. Obviously loosing Garza is going to be huge. With that said, Iowa should be much better athletically which should hopefully translate into better defense. We will still have excellent shooters on the perimeter and much more speed in the back court.

The key is whether Weiskamp comes back. A starting line-up of Joe T, Connor, CJF, Weezy, and Nunge with Murray off the bench seems like it would be somewhere in the 6-9 seed ranch for the tourney. Take Weiskamp out and I think we are more of a bubble team or at least more 8-10 seed.

If Garza is the only one gone then I think we could be very close to the offense we have now but if more take off then we could very easily fall a few step back

I would certainly think that Ulis and Perkins have to be in the mix for significant playing time as well.

Wieskamp will not get drafted this year if he goes out. He would be wise to come back unless he wants to play overseas. He will have to show that he can be the number one man before the NBA selects him.

You are probably right but he's going to go

I can’t see Wieskamp leaving unless he has a major breakout in the second half of the season. Assuming he stays, the default lineup would be:

G Toussaint
G Fredrick
G Wieskamp
G C. McCaffery
C Nunge

Regular reserves likely look something like:
G Ulis
G Perkins
F P. McCaffery
F Ke. Murray

That leaves Kr. Murray, Ogundele, and Sandfort as deep reserves.

We could use another strong post player to back up Nunge. It could be Ogundele, if he is ready. Could also be one of the grad transfers we are looking at.

I would expect a fairly typical Fran season from this group. We stay competitive, but not elite. Good chance to go dancing, but will need to win some key games to do so.

He won't get drafted in 2022 if he comes back next year and averages 20 a game. He'll be 22, almost 23 at that point. Agree with @icwesthawk. I think this season will be the last of JW in a Hawkeye uniform.

Does he have a girl friend still in school and what type of diploma is he trying to get? Hopefully he stays.

His fiance, Makenzie Meyer, was applying for dental school last spring. I'm not sure where that stands. JW is a business major. I would think, given he's been here just 2 1/2 years, he'd have another year or so left before getting his degree.

I like it if they all come back

I'll go out on a limb a bit and say next year's team will end up better than this year's team, if JW comes back. Iowa just do not perform up to inflated expectations. The pressure will be off next year and there will be a decent group of players.

I’ll take that bet. You don’t lose the best player in the nation, the best player in school history, & improve.

I don’t even want to think about how poor our rebounding will be without Garza.

I wouldn't take my side of that bet. I said going out on a limb for a reason, but it's not unprecedented to discover you've relied too much on one player until that player moves on.

I think that if we can add a little depth in the post for next year....that next years team has a shot at another 20 win season and just getting into the tournament.

The trouble of course is the B10.....winning 10 games in this conference, for me, equals a top 25 type of team.....not sure how next years version of the B10 will compare with this year...but it seems like there are a number of young teams. Wisconsin being the most senior laden team that would lose a lot....and will probably still be pretty good next year.

Losing Garza is going to hurt, hoping Joe stays as he isn't on very many draft boards.
With that said:
Wisky loses their whole starting lineup.
Illinois will lose Cockburn(draft), Ayo (draft), Frazier, and Williams
Nebraska: Thor, Webster and Lakes
PSU : Wheeler and Harrar
MSU: Langford, Henry(possible draft)
Indiana: Jackson-Davis(possible draft), Durham
MD: Morsell, Smith
OSU: Towns, Young, and Walker
Rutgers: Young, Geo, and Harper(possible draft)
Minnesota: Johnson, Curry, Carr(possible draft)
Michigan: Brooks, Brown, Livers, Davis
NW:Gaines

Seems like many teams will lose guys next year, outside of Purdue.
