Defense was so bad

Rinse, repeat.

This D is so, so, so f*cking soft.

Zero hustle, zero intensity. It's like these dorks see the 4 or 5 or 7 next to "Iowa" and just think they can come out and jog around and the other team is going to roll over. We're maybe a top-20 team at best IF we're hitting our shots. That's the reality.

Frans zone D always has and always will be atrocious. How they play it trying to hand off guys and the rotation leads to wide open shots if teams move it quickly for open corner shots or skip pass on the weak side. Just amazing how many open shots teams get off of it.

Out scoring teams doesn’t work in this league

you can beat lower levels not playing D but if you want to be elite zone D isn’t going to work

Have to agree unlike football defense does win championships but this is just sad Iowa can’t get the D going ... when you think of Iowa overall in all sports you think “tough ass defense around the clock” but Fran has proven over and over he can’t field a defense ever and I hate to be harsh on him but if he can’t get this team to win the BT championship I don’t know what is left for him here at Iowa as it’s a drought from 1979! I was f’ing 7 years old when they last one the BT championship... something has to give!

Iowa D was never going to be good. They just haven't been able to get in the 55-60 range for D efficiency to be at least respectable.
Without that, they need at least 3 guys lighting it up with perimeter shooting.

We played our best defense when Nunge, Perkins and Joe T were in the game. JBO, bless his heart is just not quick enough against man defense.

Yes, getting better defenders in the game helps the zone. However, Zone is always going to give up 3pt shots and Iowa is going to go down if the other team is hitting. Frasier is normally a bum, but he made that end of shot clock wild 3-ball, he was feeling it.

Get Bohannon off the floor and the D improves instantly. It was understandable to play him so much during those years when Iowa had no other guards who could play worth a damn, but this year it makes no sense at all unless he's on a heater. Iowa's other three guard options for him--Joe T, Perkins, and Ulis--play better defense. How many open threes and blow-bys by Ayo and Frazier did JBo give up? And every illini guarding him was able to stay on him like a blanket. It's just ... I don't get it at this point.

One of the announcers at half time said Iowa foot speed is lacking. Most announcers don't mention this. He is referring to Bohannon. So many times the person he is guarding goes right by him. Man to man or zone it still happens. This is why so many easy shots because someone has to leave their man to help out. It is not a knock it is just reality.

The easy layups in the first half pissed me off more. Had a few chances to stretch it to double digits and just gave up easy buckets in the paint.

It's been clear since the Gonzaga game that our defense suffers due to a lack of quickness, athleticism and foot speed. It's very frustrating to think our best chance at a Big Ten title in over 40 years is slipping away. Frankly, it's hard to watch, given the offensive talent Iowa possesses.

Here's the play I'm talking about, the killer 3 after we took the lead. I think it's JBO that screwed up and didn't rotate? Why is he crowding Connor here?

I cannot believe how many damn WIDE OPEN 3 point shots they had.

This team is middle of the pack without CJ.

Nunge had a few good moments but he is so clumsy and needed to secure that rebound.

I like Perkins a lot. Good defense and hustles.

Iowa always makes a guard look all world 3point shooter.

Bye BIG champuonship and #1-2 seed
After the 2nd or 3rd three pointer from the corner you would think they would start covering them but we seem to have trouble keeping someone over there to guard.

This is why I didn’t buy into the hype this season. Awful defense, and needing to hit a high percentage of 3’s to win.

I actually think the team is really good, better than in a long, long time. But that awful defense isn't because Fran doesn't have athletic perimeter defenders; no, he's got plenty. He just gives most minutes to quite possibly the worst defender in the B10, Jordan Bohannon.

But here's the thing. I don't want to bang on JBo. He's been a great Hawk and provided many good moments. But he's slower now after the hip surgeries than he was even before them. And that's just not gonna cut it against athletic guards. Northwestern? Sure, give Bohannon 40 minutes that game. IU? ILL? he only sees the floor if he's hitting his outside shot and the team needs his offense. Otherwise, should be Joe T, Perkins, or Ulis.

I think Fran has masterfully put together this team ... and he is royally screwing the pooch by insisting on Bohannon on nights when he clearly--to every Iowa fan--does not have it.

We have held last three teams to a low score— you guys just get off on bitching about every darn thing. Should just have a site for all the haters— oh wait this is it
