TIFFIN — A Des Moines man with a .340 blood alcohol content was arrested Sunday night after being observed driving backward on Interstate 80.

According a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office criminal complaint, around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, 42-year-old George E. Baker was spotted backing up in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 to the rest area at the 237 mile marker. Police said Baker then got out of his vehicle and urinated on the side of the road.

Baker was unsteady and could not complete standard field sobriety tests, authorities said. A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .340 percent. A second test later showed his blood alcohol content to be .238 percent, authorities said. The legal limit to operate a motor vehicle in Iowa is .08 percent.

Baker was arrested and faces one count of drunken driving, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

I wonder if he was drinking all the way over from Des Moines, or he was even drunker and that's what he sobered up to?
It's a Christmas miracle he didn't kill someone.

Up, down. Good question. You sober up, but the BAC goes down.
I assume this wasn't his first encounter with the law due to alcohol.
