Desmond King News

Story is already on daily Iowan. King's mother told reporter tonight he will be comming back. Gotta feel it's a combo of unfinished business, getting his degree and improving draft stock for 2017.
and his girlfriend is a freshman at Iowa

Great news if true!!! Hopefully Ott will get some good news soon!

This is really big news if true. If they can get Ott another year the defense could be really strong next season. They would have a shot at another great season.

Well, here's to Desmond King having another great season as a Hawkeye. He's already proven a lot. Can't wait to see what an Iowa D looks like with him as a senior leader.

This is huge. The impact a guy like that can have on the rest of the defense is almost unmeasurable.

I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking it.... But why did this come from his mom and not him?

Highly doubt that was the full reason.

First of all, the poster who mentioned this never said his girlfriend being a freshman was the sole reason he's coming back. Of course it isn't. But if his girlfriend is, indeed, a freshman, there's very little doubt that this fact was a significant part of his decision. And I applaud her!

King returning seemed less likely to me than Ott getting the extra year. One down, one to go. If Ott does get approval and comes back (and stays) healthy, I like our chances very much of getting back to Indy. Two complete game-changer-type players. Come on, Drew!

Put her on the staff.

Having a Mom, a lady like Mrs Powell on staff, with connections to the
Michigan recruiting area, is not a bad idea. The New Kirk may just pull the trigger.
Wait, I should be shot for saying that. LOL.......sarcasm alert

sure it wasn't the only reason, but 10 other underclassmen CB's declared, so maybe not the best year to go.

I saw this yesterday too. It includes Vernon Hargreaves and others that were rated higher than Desmond. At first I thought there was no way he could come back because his stock will never be higher with all the awards but if he can play at a high level again it would be huge for him, and ultimately, NFL teams don't care about the college awards.

To me, it's a bigger boost to our return game as he really improved Iowa's special teams.

While I agree it is a boost to our special teams, I don't think you can discount the impact of having the best CB in the nation on defense. Next year he might only have 1 or 2 interceptions, but still be the best player on our team. He is as close to a shut-down corner as we've ever had under Ferentz, and he also may be the best tackling corner we've had (Spievey was also very physical), and that part of his game often gets overshadowed by his interception total. There were numerous plays this season in which the opposition looked like they set the corner, and King busted up the play and prevented a first down. Those plays are almost as important as interceptions as it was often the difference between a first down and fourth down.

I will add that I think we have very good corners that were ready to step up behind him. Fleming had a good year and I think he could be a player to step up big in his senior season (similar to Bernstein). Jackson also looked great this year as a freshman and I think he will also be an elite corner by the time he leaves. Still, even with talent ready to fill King's shoes, none of our other corners are the best in college football.

He wouldnt be coming back if he was the best cb in college football.

I am still going to be a little skeptical about the reports until I hear it from KF or Desmond himself.

Also everyone needs to remember that Ott is rehabbing a torn ACL and Tommy John surgery. Even if he does get a medical waiver he might not be the same player.
