Desmond King News

The most impressive aspect of King returning, to me, is that--like most of us--he doesn't come from a wealthy family. The thought of NFL money--even if second or third round--would dwarf the prospects of most college grads. So in an age that is as greedy as any, it's not easy to turn down life-changing money. I applaud Desmond and his mom for making a decision I'm not sure I could make.

At the same time, I do believe it is the wisest move. Get that NCAA insurance, help the Hawkeyes take that next step, and then cash in with the NFL. As others before him have said, there's nothing like the college football experience. The NFL is a whole different world.

So here's to Desmond having an injury free senior year as he earns his degree and helps lead Iowa to a Big Ten title and beyond.

I completely agree. Pretty easy to take that money. I have a ton of respect for King and his mom, especially his mom. How many moms in that situation would strongly encourage her son to pass up millions and return to school to get a degree and settle unfinished business? I've never met her, but I applaud her for trully caring about her son and his future and not just looking to "do what's best for the family" like so many others in his shoes do.

Love this. How lucky are the Hawks to get two high draft picks in Scherff and now King to return for their final year. King is the bigger shocker because he is already an award winner at CB and a consensus all american. If Ott somehow gets a medical waiver, next year's defense could be the best since 2009. It would mean they have 9 starters back on D. Even if Ott doesn't come back they will have a very good defense.

I am ridiculously happy about this! My favorite player on this Iowa team. Not just on the field performance, but think what he adds from a leadership and preparation standpoint. From everything I've read about the guy he is a film room junkie. That rubs off big time on younger players. So excited!

Agree on how easy it would be for him to take the money. However, if he would only be 2nd or 3rd round pick, the value goes down quite a bit and probably has very little guaranteed like a 1st rounder would get. Having another strong year in college would certainly help this status.

Also, I have heard that his family situation is a big reason that his mother wants him to get the degree. I believe that Desmond had a brother murdered in Detroit and this ways heavily on his mother to have Desmond have the opportunity to succeed after football. (My sincere apologies to Desmond if this information about his brother is incorrect too.)

I know King senses if we are ever going to win a national championship 2016 may be the year, we'll be loaded on both sides of the ball with a nasty attitude to boot. Need to get the UNFINISHED BUSINESS practice shirts printed yesterday.

I would simply make the motto for 2016, FINISH. You can put FINISH on the back of the Iowa Strength and Iowa Football shirts. Put FINISH graphics up in the football complex. They can use the #finish in addition to the #attack that they used this season. Finish the block. Finish the tackle. Finish the route. Finish the play. Finish the drill. Finish the workout. Finish the practice. Finish the game. Finish the season. FINISH.

He wouldnt be coming back if he was the best cb in college football.

The Jim Thorpe award is given to the Best Defensive Back in College football. That's what
Desmond King won in 2015. Wow, I hope Desmond King RIPS Meechigan and what'shisname, their coach at Kinnick, this fall. What a bunch of ................&!&$&!&!

I am still going to be a little skeptical about the reports until I hear it from KF or Desmond himself.

Also everyone needs to remember that Ott is rehabbing a torn ACL and Tommy John surgery. Even if he does get a medical waiver he might not be the same player.

You're right but I would be willing to wager money that Drew, motivated like he is and with his work ethic, will not only be back but he'll be better.

I hope he gets it and I hope you're right and he can come back bigger and better. Sometimes it just doesn't work. It would have been nice to have Darian Cooper inside to provide some depth this season. It wasn't for lack of effort on his part it just wasn't in the cards. Same for Duzey. We had nice production from HKC and Kittle but Duzey would have been another explosive weapon.

Do not overlook the intangibles players like Ott can and do bring to the team. Experience, loyalty, leadership and heart... Ott has all of these attributes and deserves a shot at playing a full final season as a Hawkeye.

Here's hoping others in position to make the decision see that also.

Why is it always the left nut? something to ponder.
I think the left one is the one that hangs lower and thus more prominent. The you could offer your right nut, the one that hugs up to the grundle, but that is not nearly as magnanimous as offering your left nut...almost like offering your first born child

Hopefully he can do even better next year...hard to top though. Great news as a fan of Hawkeye football. Sounds like loyalty to his fellow Seniors to be played a big role.

Scherff went from top 20 to top 5. Hopefully King can boost his status.

I think King will boost his Draft status, with another DOMINATING year. Why?
Because he is one heckuva player, who will now be playing against even younger guys.
