DeVries NOT a candidate for Iowa job. Ben McCollum the next Iowa Head Coach?

I think the claim that the WVU AD is “tight” with Ben is a fallacy. He didn’t hire Ben, and was only his AD for a few years a long time ago. I’m sure they are friends, but not “tight”.

Right I'm sure they had a good relationship but it seems very overstated. It was less than three years out of his 15 year tenure at NWMS. As you said Baker didn't hire him and McCollum's title seasons were all well after Baker had moved on
Wow. Waiting to see Calhoun name more officially be linked to WVU. Could mean nothing. Or could mean everything.
Do we have a new head coach tomorrow or do we have to wait a few more days?

The only other appealing options would be Villanova or Texas.
Villanova fans seem to think they might get Kevin Willard from Maryland. I think Texas fans are hoping for a huge splash like Nate Oates or Grant Mccausland.
I mean I'm sure if Texas wanted to they could make it scary for Iowa but hopefully they're aiming higher and Iowa can get it done before then.
WVU fanboards say they text on a regular basis. Again - I’m just relaying second hand info so the veracity is dubious
He has been considered the second option for awhile I think. And for what it's worth Iowa has also interviewed him as a backup option

They literally print money down there so I’m sure if they really want someone, they’ll just up the price until they get them. But yes otherwise it’s a high pressure gig.
It must be. Those guys on the hot seat were highly coveted coaches when they took the Texas job.
A gagillion dollars and unlimited resources is probably always going to be appealing.
Texas will get someone very highly coveted, not named McCollum.
I'd really like to be optimistic about Iowa's chances after reading these quotes from the Gazette story:
“Why this one? Timing was perfect. I love the athletic director, Brian Hardin. He's fantastic. Their administration is great. Earl Martin is fantastic as a president. It is close to home as well. Especially for your first move because you do have to take into account that you are moving your family, too.
“When you do that and maybe you take a low major on the East Coast or something like that and it's a culture shock and on top of it it's going to be a difficult transition to be able to win games right away, there's a lot of factors in there that you have to think about,. It makes it tricky to move positions often for a guy like me."
I'm hoping the "home" and "family" factors have bigger significance for him than they would for some coaching candidates. A big bump in salary to support the family while keeping them in a relatively sane part of the country could play major roles in his decision.

I think the fact that no other name has been tied to Iowa makes it very likely that Ben will be the next head coach at the University of Iowa

I personally believe BM will be a Hawkeye, and I want to believe this post.. But they ended up with egg on their faces with Devries. So I'm not getting too comfortable about it yet.

Agree, hoping we land BM but not getting my hopes up until it's a done deal. And I'd respectfully push back on us getting egg on our face with DD. Just because the media reported that he was BG's top candidate doesn't make it true. She may have had BM as her top guy this whole time.
Trilly Donovan, a pretty well connected college hoops analysts that seems to be right more often than not (but certainly has been wrong before). Best I can tell his internet presence / name is anonymous for a college analyst that most would recognize. But I'm not sure on that.
Why was their egg on their face? Was DeVries offered the job, and told Iowa to pound sand?
If Iowa gets McCollum, I think it is plausible to believe they got their #1 choice. Everyone always says whoever they get was their top choice, but there reason to believe it’s true.
They were reporting that Devries was hired and that a contract had been signed. Obviously false.
