I knew what was going to happen. I was sleeping and figured, "screw it, I'm sleeping some more to be up for the Super Bowl. Iowa's going to lose to IU because Fran is going to play JBo and Connor way too many minutes. He'll play JT some minutes, but if he screws up even once he's on the bench, Fran won't go to Ulis no matter what, and he will run with JBo no matter how bad he is offensively and defensively."

So, I read the box score. JBo 33 minutes, Connor 24, Toussaint 4, and Ulis 6.

Fran is so ****ing predictable. Murray has 16 minutes? What are you thinking, Fran?

Apparently, CJ is more important to this team than Garza is because lowa sucked without him when he got hurt last year and it's happened again this year. I'm not worried about losing Garza next year now; I am worried that CJ may never be healthy for an entire season; its been a "lower leg injury" both years.

I probably wouldn't have to worry about CJ quite so much if Fran realized that the guards on his bench are better than the JBo and Connor in terms of all-around game. And if you say Connor's a forward, I say so is Murray so why isn't he getting 30 minutes a game?

I don't know. This team looks like an 8, 9, or 10 seed. It would be poetic if Iowa got an 8 seed and had to play Baylor in the 2nd round. Be like the 90s all over again. I swear, Iowa was always a 7 or 8 seed under Dr Tom in the 90s. Now, the "best team ever" is going to be lucky to be 1999-2000 Iowa (Kent McCausland, Sweet Sixteen).

Who does Iowa beat from here on out? Penn State, sure. Wisconsin? Slow guards so maybe a split. Rutgers at home? Maybe. Michigan? ha! Illini at home? Unlikely. Ohio State on the road? Doubtful. MSU on road? I don't know. It looks like a struggle to stay at .500 by years end.

What a waste.

Have to love a rant by someone that didn’t watch nor knows the remaining schedule. There is plenty to complainn about but at least be informed. Keegan was in massive foul trouble all day and JT was really poor today.

It wasn't a good game, as in well executed, but it was a "good" game as far as going either way up to the last minute.

The result's not terribly surprising for those of us that have watched enough Fran ball over the years.

No, I'm not watching again until they get it figured out. I remember last year with CJ out. I may have been wrong about the details of the game, but I was right about them losing again. Sorry, Hawkrose, if you want to torture yourself, go ahead.

Won't say JT played well today but it was 4 minutes.....I think his confidence is shot with how much he's been sitting and he is trying to overcompensate. I wish he could slow down a little when running point and limit turnovers, still think he could have a bright future if he stays

I agree Fran has messed JTs psyche up. Always felt we should have committed to getting the young guards / minutes confidence early in the year. I wish he would just commit to ulis or JT and play them 20-25 at PG period. You can play JBO 25/30 put split his time at the 2.

I'm not surprised JoeT can't get any rhythm going. 4 minutes to JBo's 33? I don't understand why they don't play together and then have Ulis be the backup point. At this point, get Joe T and Ulis ready for the ncaas by playing them a lot of minutes. Rest JBo (20 minutes per game) for firepower late in the season. Iowa's losing, anyway, so get Joe T's confidence up by playing him a lot and giving Ulis 15 to 20 minutes per game. The worst that can happen is that Iowa loses and that's happening anyway. I know, it's Fran we're talking about. It's just ... what it is at this point. *sigh*

Exactly. Fran is beholden to his sons, and that's f*cked up.

Because Fran is hellbent on making sure his boy gets a disproportionate amount of minutes.

For those who want Joe Toussaint to play more, he can't hit the broad side of a barn, he's out of control most of the time, and he's too short to guard anyone in Fran's defensive scheme. Other then that, I'll take a Perkins or Ulis as my first or second choice.

Fran has lacked good guard play for many yrs. either they cannot shoot or cannot play D. Toussaint/Perkins/Ulis have 2 three point buckets all yr....Heck Ash has 3 himself. With Garza getting doubled, teams are leaving these guys to shoot and they cannot. Iowa is broken till CJ gets back.

There were also two Iowa wrestling matches today, against Purdue and Ohio State, where we got to see our athletes who are really good at what they do.
yeah I watched them as well (recorded). It is the only sport at Iowa that has The attitude to compete at the highest level. Sad.

I take it you didn't notice while perusing the box score that Keegan fouled out? 🙄

The only encouraging thing I saw was we actually played very good man defense until foul trouble came into play. The zone just kills us because we give up easy shots and rebounds.

Its infuriating because the main reason Fran plays that defense is to protect his starters from fouls.

Instead of just playing a real defense and trusting his bench.

Hes a fvcking idiot.

Watched them off and on and it’s scary how big the drop off is to the “2nd string”. Lee is just insanely good. Special talent obviously.

I watched them after I got up. Fun group to watch. No complaints from me about the wrestling team! 😀

Yup, saw that. My bad on that one. I guess it's just Joe T and Ulis Fran has problems with.

Ulis has probably 30 minutes total in B10 play so who knows? But you're right about Joe T and Perkins right now. CJ is probably the best guard Fran has ever recruited (he inherited Marble and Gatens) so without him Iowa is mediocre at best. I just wonder what Joe T would be like at this point in the season if Fran hadn't had such a short hook with him early in the year. Same with Ulis, we know even less about him other than that he seems calm, collected, under control, and hustles. But it's likely neither would have been able to provide what CJ does so ultimately you're right.

If you pay for the premium shit like me, you’ll get the inside scoop. Here is the real deal from the owners: we aren’t supposed to care about any results during the regular season, as long as they can squeak out a s16, all will be forgotten

I saw where Joe T. had 2 turnovers. He wasn't the only one with 2 of them. Still curious as to why Fran benched him.

I think you answered your own question,... two turnovers in four minutes will generally get anyone the bench..

Yeah, I will understand taking him out of the game in the first half, but I also wonder he didn't get any minutes at all in the 2nd half. If he had started turning the ball over again and not playing well, take him out again. There were two three minute stretches without scoring in the final ten minutes. To me, that might have been a time to put in a guy for a change of pace.

I think Peter Jok would be classified as a guard. I would say Peter is better than CJ offensively. CJ is a better defender.
