In fairness to the rebounding….thats at least partly due to no freeman in there to fight against that 7’ guy Dakota trotted out. Dakota hung around for a bit because they realized Owen was out and used their bigs instead.Currently shooting 40% from three & 6 players averaging double figures. This is a coaches dream! Can they keep this up against tougher competition is the question. Giving up offensive rebounds is really something they need to get ahead of. 14 O-rebounds to USD is horrible. Need to keep this under 5 per game. Not sure if this team is capable of keeping teams under 80 points in the Big10. Iowa needs to average 90+ to win games.
Has there been any reports on ticket sales in moline? I’ll be present at least 😁We will get a better look at rebounding this Friday. Cougars are 68th tallest team in NCAA , so guessing around what top 20%, and also shooting well , think it was 37% from 3. Hawkeyes are 8 point favorites, so should be good test, not such a neutral site as advertised.
I don't think we should jump to conclusions about the best rotation, and it might depend some on the opponent. I like what I see from Thelwell and Traore a lot, but I need a bigger sample to say they clearly are the best options, especially that other players should not also get regular playing time. I am leaning toward Thelwell and Traore starting and getting more than 20 min in most games. Dembele might be primarily at 5, and since Freeman picks up fouls and might need a blow each half, that alone might give him about 15min. Koch maybe isn't getting big minutes, but he has shown IMO that he should be getting some minutes regularly. If he gets on a roll, I would leave him in more than a few min. Traore can also play 3, which gives Fran options. Brock can facilitate the offense well, and isn't as bad on defense as some suggest. Thelwell is just a more complete player. I like Pryce as back up to both Payton and Dix, but both of them should average about 30 min. I don't see the other back up centers playing regularly, but Brauns and Mulvey can play limited minutes if Freeman/Dembele get in early foul trouble or are out otherwise.
Game against WSU should be a good test.
wanna reconsider that statement?I don't think we should jump to conclusions about the best rotation, and it might depend some on the opponent. The eye test says they will be fine. The alternative to not playing them is we clearly lose this game. They are clearly 2 of our top 5 players.Very impressed by these two. I kept expecting Fran to pull them out down the stretch just for conditioning sake, but they just kept making play after play after play.
Will be interesting to see what they look like in B1G play, but I think it's only a matter of time before they start.
Just watched the game this morning. Brock was awful on defense last night. Calmese is a really good player. I did say that Thelwell was a more complete player. That was on full display last night. He and Freeman were the difference in the game.wanna reconsider that statement?
That’s not a neutral court win. But it’s a good win.Just watched the game this morning. Brock was awful on defense last night. Calmese is a really good player. I did say that Thelwell was a more complete player. That was on full display last night. He and Freeman were the difference in the game.
Much better defensive game by Dembele last night, especially when he and Freeman were not both on the floor. I wish someone would explain to him that if he gets the ball near the basket on offense, he can go up a dunk. Good win, with the Sandfort bros off on their shooting and Dix apparently hurt. Haven't read yet what happened to him. WSU is a pretty good team, and Hawks get to count it as a "neutral court" win. We should schedule a game in Moline every year.
Technically I believe it is a “neutral court” win isn’t it?That’s not a neutral court win. But it’s a good win.
It’s better than playing on campus these days.I tried getting the actual NCAA definition, too damn tired to go through the rules. Moline about 65 miles from Iowa City so, just guessing, it's technically a road game. Still definitely a "home" game for Iowa. Our opponent's campus was more like 1700 miles. Davenport and Bettendorf are just across the river. Some other population centers like Iowa City, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids (area), Clinton and Muscatine aren't that far away. The crowd was 99% Iowa fans. I think that's a good win for Iowa re: NCA. We should definitely play there every year if that's a neutral site.
Of course it was essentially a home game in terms of fans, but I was referring to the metrics for getting into the dance. I could be wrong. That’s not a neutral court win. But it’s a good win.
I mean it’s absurd if it’s considered neutral is all I’m saying. One school is halfway across the country and the other is 60 miles away. But if it helps us at the end of the year I’m good with it!Of course it was essentially a home game in terms of fans, but I was referring to the metrics for getting into the dance. I could be wrong.
