Difference between NCAA tournament and NIT

Guards.

Ours are some of the worst in the B1G.

That's your answer in a word.
had a thing at school tonight so I am watching late, and wondering if I am watching the wrong game. Murray looked like crap all night and the rest of the front court hasn’t been much better. Why the hate on the guards tonight?

I thought it was decided by the Board that moving JBO to point guard unleashed the dragon, but apparently if opponent actually guards him, he still can't get his shot off.
Funny how that works.

And JBo had zero assists in 30 minutes tonight. The question becomes, will Connor be tweeting at the “idiots”? 🤔

This is what I don't really quite understand about the folks popping off after Bohannon had like... 2 good games in a row. Maryland was completely out to lunch on defense and Nebraska is just trash. He really hasn't done anything of note offensively against good teams and he's a liability defensively.

I understand he draws a lot of attention but that can't be the only thing you bring to the game to get these kind of minutes.

Losing a game like this will be the difference between an NCAA bid or NIT. For the life of me I cannot figure out why Iowa cannot get it done in the games at home under Fran.
Fran has won .500 of Big 10 games at Iowa. His record speaks for itself. He’s a slightly above-average coach… Nothing more. Nothing less. And nothing will change while he is here. It’s pretty straightforward. “Wait ‘til next year’ went out the window about 5 years ago. Numbers don’t lie.

Yep.

Last year was the time for something better to happen.

Bad luck and stubbornness prevented that.

I didn’t see much sense of urgency tonight from this team. I keep hearing from the players and coaches how much fight this team has. Im sorry, I don’t see it. I saw a lot of bad non- verbals tonight, guys walking off the court with head down or shaking ,
Constant complaining about the officiating- not great effort on the 50-50: balls ,
When I see a Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin, frankly Penn State I see teams that maximize their potential,,,,we don’t come close.
I think we have the potential to be a top half team but we seem to have the attitude that it will just happen if we show up ,,,,no sense of urgency, don’t play with an attitude or chip on our shoulder….Just my opinion.

He was bad tonight,,,,substitution pattern was different. As a team we seemed dysfunctional..Poor performance by all.

Yep. This is Fran ball at Iowa….most of the time good teams in late February and March will expose Iowa.

I’m honestly reaching Lickliter levels of apathy. Last full game I watched was the NCAA implosion last March.

Lol true, but.....

The deviant or whoever the f*** his name is wouldn't have had a career game if we had a Jack Nunge.

We will always get dominated in the paint by teams that can legitimately go 3 out/2 in versus us because we don't have the interior depth.

Taller teams will always present a mismatch against this current lineup.

That's why we needed to be patient with this group and treat it as a rebuild and anything beyond that as gravy........

The fact that we could very well sneak into the NCAA Tournament IS gravy.........

Just sayin.

Furthermore, we may have a 4 that can guard a team's best big like Dickinson.....but we do NOT have the depth if teams go big like Michigan did and lean on their other big, who had a clear mismatch all game.

It so happened they made the switch when Iowa played bad teams. So yeah, all Iowa's problems are fixed. Also turns out Michigan actually tries to play defense, unlike Maryland and Nebraska.

This team has had some bad luck in a few games (Penn State and Rutgers). But you tend to get what you deserve when you don't defend. And that first 17 minutes of defense in the second half was abysmal. But woohoo, we score points.

Nah, I also saw piss poor quick shot wasted effort on offense that got us in trouble in our previous losses as well..........

If the other team scores, you better not waste the possession with Pat Mac dribble dribble dribble only to lose the ball or force up some goofy ass pass or shot......or JBo taking a garbage heat check range 3 point shot early in the clock.

You better run your f***ing offense and make sure the shot you're taking is the optimal f***ing shot in that f***ing possession.

And I guarantee you that well over 60% of the time in games Iowa loses, that is NOT f***ing happening.

Hope that helps...............................

Its funny that people were so mortified over your previous jbo heat check shots comments after Maryland.

He did it tonight and Iowa lost by 1 possession.

Just about every time he makes a 3 you can count on him coming down next possession and hunting a forced shot. The announcers usually start calling it out before it happens.

Its delusional.

Obviously thats was way way down the list of problems tonight but throwing away possessions for no good reason isn't a winning strategy.

one you get to play for the national title and one you'd rather not go to if you're a fan

He was the best fricking guard. All of our guards suck. All of them!!! Can we please stop acting like joe or Perkins or ulis or anyone else in the bench that plays guard is gonna make a damn bit of difference if they play more minutes than Bohannon. They all suck. Joe sucked tonight. Perkins was borderline drunk the first ten minutes.

If we're getting 11 points, 0 ast and 0 RB from jbo, then give me Joet or cmac any day.

I'm still confused why Tony stayed on the bench earlier in the season when he was playing well and then moved to starter when his play went downhill?

some of us tried to remind people that Minnesota, Maryland, and Nebraska are three of the worst teams in the conference… but many people wanted to believe.

Can I tell you a secret? Keegan Murray(AI) was 9-23 FG and 4-9 FT. JBo was 2-5 3FG 5-5 FT. Lets not look too hard if we are going to pin a one possession game on a player.
How many assists would JBo have had if we could have made a Fking layup/dunk.

Im waiting on the secret.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Two things can be true with no mutual exclusivity.

Forcing up heat check shots is a bad strategy in a close game. Thats a true statement. Keegan's stat line does not effect whether or not that is true.

Jbo does this once or twice a game and its almost always a wasted possession.

Obviously Keegan had a rougher game than anyone but he also doesn't throw away possessions on vanity shots.

So three point shots are "vanity shots". JFC. Have you every taken the time to watch another bball game outside of Iowa games? In over 26 MPG, Jordan is averaging less than a TO per game, and you're talking about throwing away possessions. I don't think he's the best guard around, but some of you guys find every little hole in his game to find a reason to not like him, no matter how stupid it sounds.

His heat check 3’s are wasted possessions, are almost always terrible shots, and should count as turnovers. Would be one thing if they were end of shot clock 3’s but they’re always early in the clock. And no, the type of heat check 3’s he throws up don’t happen often in other games. Whether you like, dislike or are indifferent to the guy, he’s a 6th yr guy and should know better than heaving those shots up.

It’s baffling to me that Frans core concepts of pushing the ball, scoring…need to have defense and rebounding to support it. I thought Crispin on the telecast said it perfect. If they’re forced to play against set defenses too much, they struggle.

And last night was yet another glaring example of when those things both fail (rebounds and defense) his teams are very beatable. Throw lazy turnovers in and I’m shocked the game was that close.

The biggest issue I have is that after having Garza for four seasons Iowa couldn’t recruit a big guy ready for the BIG10, that includes the portal.
Iowa has no inside threat unless Keegan drives so teams are able to pressure out top, taking away open looks for Jordan. It’s going to be extremely difficult to beat good teams when you have a 6’8 undersized center and a hodgepodge of guards.
