Why do we have to have a standard vanilla lineup set for every game?

Why not put the best 5 out there that can compete?

If we started this 5 vs IU:

Garza
Murray
Weiskamp
Ulis
Toussaint

Maybe we could have won? We would have been better off on both ends of the court against their athleticism.

Was it coincidence that IU’s guard had his “best defensive effort/game” he ever had (per Archie Miller) against the slowest backcourt in the nation? Nahhh couldn’t be.

Hell, with two guys in your starting lineup averaging 3.8 turnovers (or more) per 40 in conf play, your starting lineup better damn well be good at defense.

The team overall remains at the trash level defensively (currently kenpom #99). Would be interesting if you compare the lineup you suggest vs the typical starting 5. Bohannon is beyond bad defensively, so a lot of ground would be gained there. But would enough improvement come on the D end to make up for the loss offensively? Against indy the answer is obvious, but that's not usually been the case.
Interesting question as to what would be the optimal lineup for Iowa based on offensive and defensive efficiency for each player.

Where is it that you coach?

I was kinda thinking if Fran says we have 10 guys able to play at this level, why doesn't he scheme like this. Makes sense. Find the weakness in the opponents and play playe3ra accordingly.

Our starting lineup has definitely been Vanilla.

I think the regular starting five should start every game, but if JBo, CJ or Joe W fail to score in the first five minutes of a half, they should find a spot on the bench. The same goes for Connor, if the opposing players he is responsible for are scoring at will. If that starting line-up can't defend as well as the reserves, it better score, and score often. If not, I want to see a lot more of BOTH Murrays, Joe, T., Ulis, and Perkins.

Or how about just a different starting five for a 2nd half when it's clear 3 of the 5 starters aren't getting it done. Nope, cant do that though! Always has to be the same 5 so that they can extend that 10 point lead to 16. So dumb.
