This team is dogshit. Same lack of athleticism and poor defense as every other year. Maybe it’s because our team looks more like a suburban Panera company picnic team than a big ten basketball team…EVERY DAMN YEAR!!!
Embarrassing program.

Without better NIL funds, what can be done?

It is what it is. Even before NIL, it’s clear Fran has always favored tall, lanky shooters who aren’t very athletic. I didn’t watch much Iowa basketball last year and I don’t plan to this year.

Hopefully Fran will move on after this year and Iowa can get a coach who can drum up excitement and maybe some more NIL funds.

Extremely white baybay.

They'll be fun to watch on offense.

Infuriating to watch on defense.

Basically the inverse of the 2023 football team. (without the winning percentage)

17 or 18 win team.

It might be a tad early to evaluate this team.

That being said, this team appears to be just another Fran team. Shoot well - win. Shoot poorly - lose.

Well, it didn't take long for Curtis Blow to come out from the cellar. One game in, maybe 2nd to 3rd best player hurt, Fran trying to figure out rotations, but Curtis is definitively damned the Hawkeyes for another season with the Panera Bread reference.

My take is Payton and Dix and our center could have gone elsewhere for more NIL but the rest are mostly low dollar NIL prospects. We lost Perkins because he had the highest NIL value + he apparently didn't love Fran as much as was postulated.

I think Pryce may end up being as good as Payton on offense and maybe a better defender. Jury is out on Harding.

Without more NIL money, maybe Fran's system of low cost lanky white boys will actually be the best system for keeping Iowa at about average 0.500 in B1G play. Most teams don't want to many of these type of players because they are mostly below the rim,, slow twitch, and poor defenders but Fran embraces that type player.

I doubt this team is garbage....it is little bit above average for B1G and probably ncaa bubble team.

I hope all of you who claim you didn't watch the games last season and won't watch again this year will stop posting on here. Afterall, that would be like posting about the quality of a new beer without having tasted it. Plus, the lack of your negativity will make this board a lot happier experience for the rest of us. Thanks!

I don’t disagree with your sentiment about it being a happier experience, however I think everyone has a right to post and should if they want to. My hope is as the Hawkeyes continue to grow and keep winning that they will come around to enjoy the ride as well.

I watch, and without any expectations whatsoever. It’s more enjoyable that way.

They weren’t very good pre-NIL. Next excuse?

Freeman/Dix/Traore are a solid nucleus of 2 way players with upside this year

Payton is a flat out scorer who can rebound but is atrocious on defense

Thelwell, while not quite the passer that Brock is, has a solid all around game and should be mostly gravy this year at PG. I see him getting heavy minutes.

The rest are really role players, though development is key as we need an 8-9 man rotation. Koch has the most upside this season, while Dembele needs to bring some consistency, rebounding and defense. Brock is one of the best passers I can remember at Iowa but is marginal to decent on defense and needs to clean up his shooting. Pryce has looked improved this year and his shooting is a big plus, but he has significant limitations on D. High IQ. Ideally 2 of these guys needs to take a moderate to large step forward this year.
