Disney closing splash mountain ride over " Song of the South " link

The dumb woke part of this is the stories depicted in Song of the South were based on African-American fables. It's literally canceling a form of black folk art.

Do you have any links to any regular black people who arn't specifically sitting in the conservative camp who have come out in opposition to this?

So Candace Owens and Diamond and Silk don't count.
Curious. Why do only the people you know will get offended count? Seems like you're rigging the game by discounting certain blacks. Kinda like JB saying they aren't really black because they aren't Democrats.

Why? Are they not black people?

Because their entire lively-hood depends on them agreeing with most conservatives. So they have a very good financial reason to not see racism where it exists.

I refuse to believe every black american besides the hardcore conservative commentators is "woke". Black Americans are generally speaking more socially conservative than white americans.

Dave Chappell isn't woke for example so if he has come out against this than I would say he counts.

Do you believe that only non-conservative blacks wanted Song of the South to be cancelled?

Definition of regular black folk vs others?

LOL...blacks were picketing the movie almost as soon as it premiered. It plays to a racist trope and that was recognized from the very beginning.

NYT article December 14, 1946

“No matter how much one argues that it’s all childish fiction, the master-and-slave relation is so lovingly regarded ... with the Negroes bowing and scraping and singing spirituals in the night, that one might almost imagine that you figure Abe Lincoln made a mistake. Put down that mint julep, Mr. Disney!”

Bosley Crowther Review of Song of the South after it's premiere

"I call upon you to take immediate steps in your department and
to initiate steps in any other department of the city to close
immediately Abie’s Irish Rose and Song of the South. These
two pictures are not only an insult to American minorities, but
an insult to everything that America stands for as a whole."

Seems like he is trying to count the majority and not focus on two or three conservative talking heads. It’s not hard to understand.

I believe that the vast majority of black people consider it a racist caricature. It's the first time I've heard it referred to as a "black art form" and unsurprisingly that claim came unsupported from a white dude who likes Robert E Lee Statues and thinks the confederacy wasn't that bad.

In other Disney news, many expect Animal Kingdom to close in 2024 (2023 is the 25th anniversary). It is the least popular park and most people view it as a half day visit. In addition, several rides/areas of the park remain closed and have been for quite some time.

Plot

JOHNNY AND GINNY, JUST BEFORE HIS ATTEMPTED MURDER AT THE HANDS OF BULLIES
Much of the movie follows this pattern: Johnny, a young boy born of a wealthy plantation owner in post Civil-War South, suffers at the hands of an absent father, hillbilly redneck bullies, and an overbearing mother, and has no one to turn to. He takes solace in the stories of – we assume – a former slave named Uncle Remus. His mother, born of an era where this type of fraternizing was Not Ok™, tries her best to keep Johnny and Uncle Remus apart. She doesn’t like the influence Remus’ stories are having on her son.

Now, in that first clip, we see Uncle Remus comforting Johnny and Ginny who had been bullied (the two bullies were actually Ginny’s older brothers). Uncle Remus literally steps in at the last second to save Johnny from serious injury at the hands of the bullies.

There are several themes in this movie that children can relate to: bullies, unfair mothers, stories of talking animals. As adults, we can see the impact that Remus is having on Johnny – when Ginny is distraught at the ruination of her dress, Johnny even attempts to lower his voice to sound like Uncle Remus as he recounts one of the earlier stories in the film.

JOHNNY FINDS A MUCH-NEEDED MENTOR

At the end of the day, it’s Uncle Remus’ character and charm that wins over the day. His influence is far greater than the latent racism of the 19th century plantation, and even Johnny’s mother comes to understand that the wisdom and kindness of Uncle Remus transcends the racial isolationism she has come to count on.

That’s the plot. There is no racism in the plot.

As much as I didn't enjoy that park it would surprise me if they closed it entirely. Seems like they have a good deal of investment in it.

Only the woke ones.

It's similar to tearing down statues and monuments.
No it's not. You really should read up on why/when most of these monuments were erected. Not sure why on earth people get upset about tearing down a traitors statue that is displayed in time square. Just take it down and move it to a museum of history where it should be. No need to rewrite History, just change how we view it.

As for the ride itself, all I remember is characters from Brier Rabbit, a series of children's books I remember reading as a kid.

There's only so much space, so they'll likely tear it down and put a new ride based on a new/different movie/IP.
Song of the South is old and no longer available. They’re going to switch it to the Princess and the Frog.

If people are upset about it, they can drown their tears on the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. Then head over to Peter Pan. Finish it off on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.

My understanding is that the basic ride is staying the same, they are just changing the theme (i.e. the name, music, and characters). When it reopens it will be based on a 2009 movie, The Princess & the Frog.

They’re also adding Tiana’s cafe and merchandise store. Because that’s what this is really about. Selling more food and merch.

The park is already at capacity. All you can do is sell more stuff to the people already there.
