DJ Carton taking time away for personal reasons

Young kids nowadays brin
lots of college kids have difficulty dealing with the stress of college. i think the pressures are much greater than when i was a student. add to that the demands of playing college basketball at a high level and you must really need to have your head straight to deal with everything. i think its an aspect of college sports that most of us dont appreciate. i hope he is given the space to work this out and the best of luck to him.
So what kind of stress do young kids have that dont have the means or brains to go to college... probably a lot more because they know they will be working at Walmart the rest of the lives...mental illness is real but some of these young kids bring it on themselves. They need validation.

So much strain on millennials these days, what with such an uncertain future in the world. Add on the stress of having to compete in a sport at such a high level and it surprises me that more kids aren't struggling. Good Luck to DJ. Hope he gets it all figured out.

In general, a couple of problems here. Someone currently 19/20 is not even a millennial. And whether we are talking about millennials (1981-1996) or generation Z, (1997-2012) no groups have had it so easy. No cold war, no Vietnam, loans instead of working through college, lax college academic standards, low unemployment rate,...... Granted that many were raised without having to learn to deal with adversity, but that doesn't mean that they face a tougher world.

It does make you wonder if Chris Holtman and staff were too hard on the kid and he just couldn’t take it. Sometimes it is better to give someone an arm around their shoulders than to scream at them and kick them in the butt. I have no idea if this could be true but it makes you wonder if he is in the environment he needs to succeed. He has all the talent in the world and he needs a coach who can support him.

I'm sure plenty of ex-Hoosiers who played under Bob Knight would confirm this.

Three points:

1. Homesick my ass. Didn't this little snowflake have a chance to play for a Big Ten, NCAA qualifying school 60 miles from his home? Yeah, no sympathy there.

2. The "uncertain times", also my ass. I was born in 59. Grew up with the Kennedy assassination, Democrat segregation, the Vietnam War, another Kennedy assassination, the MLK assassination, Watergate, the Vietnam War still going on and, just as I was graduating from HS, the Jimmy Carter depression. Oh, and 11,000 Soviet nukes aimed at the US. The country has never been safer or more prosperous than it is right now. Leading to 3.

3. There's such an increase in mental illness because the cognitive dissonance between the dystopian and fantastical world indoctrinated into children and that sliver of reality in the back of the human minds, like recognizing the simple biological fact only 2 genders exist in all mammals, that makes this post modern PC uniformity sound like the utter bullshit it is. Like using that 16 year old girl to prattle on about global warming. That's what kids are learning. No wonder they're ****ed up.

Kids now are living the easiest lives humans have ever lived.

Doesn't mean there isn't real mental illness, because there certainly is, but allot of it is nonsense.

Kids essentially having no purpose, discipline or anything real to do, and instead being given drugs to keep them sedated and living in online fantasy land.

I have no idea exactly what DJ's going through, and neither do any of us. The world right now is a messed up place for a lot of reasons. Let's not project our own political views and make this about something it isn't. But if that's what you really want to do, there's another forum where you can get as political as you'd like.

I’m glad I didn’t go to school in a world where if you made one mistake, the entire school knew about it within minutes.

I don’t envy the kids today for living in a cyber age. You can claim it’s easy all you want, but you haven’t got a clue what it’s like to be a school aged kid. Neither do I.

This post makes some poignantly sobering claims that are somewhat accurate.

Unfortunately, the majority of this diatribe is nothing but inane drivel, spoken unsurprisingly by yet another Boomer suffering from puerile thinking and rectal cranial inversion who has a grossly distorted and aggrandized view of his importance and stature in the world.

News flash, jerkoff: Your generation is nothing. My paternal grandparents raised kids during the Great Depression and my grandfather was a med evac during WWII. But please tell us more about your self-sacrifice and selfless contribution to America after you graduated high school and the draft had already ended. My maternal grandfather lied about his age so he could fight in Europe. But please tell us more about your rugged individualism during the "Carter Depression."

JFC.

Now get off my lawn you old crusty bastard.

Bleeder, other than insulting me you made one point that actually made sense.

The generation that won WW2, my parents generation, were remarkable people that created Pan Americana. They left us, the Boomers, a wonderful world. We began making perfect the enemy of good. Every generation since has seen nothing but a deterioration of the legacy that won the War and put man on the moon.

The stream of personal attacks you unleashed is a fabulous example of the deterioration I was describing.

But I am old and have learned there's no victory gained in besting fools. I'll leave you all to your safe places and your actual hatred of those with whom you disagree.

I don't disagree that social media creates an unhealthy environment but lifes not nearly as tough as a lot of people want to pretend it is.

Being offended is a status symbol now.

Sounds like he was at the Bettendorf HS game, and not at the Ohio State game today. Have to wonder if he was just home seeing family, looking for advice, etc., and if hes still attending classes in Columbus?
Whatever it may be, prayers are with him for a smooth recovery

You are no better than him when you link me in with his deplorable POV.

It's hard to know how DJ's mental health issues will be resolved, and what court he plays next on, or doesn't. I taught at Bett 25 years ago and still have an allegiance there, and to those kids. I wish DJ the best.

And, I'm really happy with all three point guards who will be in an Iowa uniform next year, as their first choice.

Guys like Deplorable and Onion talk so tough. None of us have any idea what’s going on here. Heaven forbid you had to fight through the Jimmy Carter era! You could go to college in the late 70’s for what, about 5 K a year all in ? My brother was able to go to Drake law for like 2 a semester. Work a Summer job and pay for it. Screw you guys.
