DJ Harvey Transfer!

He would be able to use his redshirt year this upcoming year when he has to sit out, and still get two years to play right?

His scheduled visit to Iowa was reported about a week ago. Good that he's down to just two schools. Anyone know when he's visiting Vandy?

DJ would be a sit-one-play-two, available for the 2020 season.

4-star our of HS.
From MD.

Vandy was 9-23 last season. If he wants to be part of a winning bball program, he will seriously consider Iowa over Vandy.

If he places value on education caliber first, Vandy will be the choice. They are the NW of the SEC. Good school.

Coming from ND, it’s difficult to think this is strictly a b-ball decision. I hope I’m wrong!

Don't discount Fran's strong ND connections. He's still got a lot of clout there. Plus Harvey played with Garza.

From reading reports it sounds like Harvey wasn't happy with Brey's plans for him going forward. If he wants to be a starter in 2020 on an aggressive, uptempo team that's on the rise, Iowa would definitely fit the bill. Lot of PT available in the backcourt once Moss and Bohannon graduate. And we have a huge need for guards who can play defense, which it sounds like Harvey can. I don't know what Vandy offers outside of academics. They were awful last year.

Would be a gigantic pick up for the 2020-2021 team. Reminds me of Devyn Marble.

Picking up Harvey would be great to separate the classes a bit too. Ideally we don’t want a class of 5 or 6 again. Leads to a really young roster every couple of years.

Nice. Can't think of a single reason to go to Vanderbilt to play basketball other than Jerry Stackhouse has sold him on some sort of vision of the program. Should be an easy choice, but you never know.

This. Some players seem to gravitate towards teams with a new coach that can sell a positive vision of the near future. Vandy is the riskier BBall choice with a first year coach with limited HC experience. I hope he finds Iowa the better fit.

While Iowa may not be Vanderbilt in regards to its academic reputation, it is certainly not low brow. Depending on what his interests other than basketball may be (law, medicine, health, business, etc) Iowa is a pretty well respected institution.

Sounds like great news, as a start to the 2020 class. Harvey would give us an experienced guard with size (6-6, 220) and athleticism. He was ND's third leading scorer and rebounder this past year, although his shooting percentages were just OK (39% overall, 30% from 3, and 75% FTs). Only about 1 assist/game and a few more TOs, so he would probably be a 2/3 wing at Iowa. I hope reports that he likes to play defense are true, although individual stat's (steals or blocks) don't show that. I don't remember seeing him play, but I like having another experienced 2/3 for 2020, besides Weesy, even if he only turns out to be a back up.

I like our chances a lot here...

IA offers DJ a viable path to an immediate starting spot at the 2, on a probable NCAA tourney team in 2021 while playing in one of the best conferences in the country with the largest TV footprint. He'll get to play one year with his DC area friend Garza (along with significant additional talent in JW, JN, CP, PM, CJF, JT, CM, and whomever else joins.

It seems like the traditional positions of point guard and center remain in the McC line ups. The other three positions are very fluid based on situations and the roster composition. Not usually a fan of transfers but this particular kid seems custom made for the McC concept and the roster needs season after next.

Agreed he would help extremely well with depth, but telling him he will start day one in 2020 will be a tough sell. He would have to either dethrone Weezy or PMac to start at the 2 or 3.

He is a big guard moreso that a sf. Actually in McC's way of thinking he is a wing, so he would probably play with a PG, a guard/wing, a PF, and C. He will fit right in perfectly.

Not a slam dunk as Vandy hired former pro and N Caroline star Jerry Stackhouse as their new coach. Evidently has created much energy around the program.

Anyone know why he wants to leave ND?

Here's a local media report including video with Mike Brey. From what I've read it seems like the parting was amicable. DJ doesn't sound like a problem kid at all. https://www.wndu.com/content/sports/Irish-DJ-Harvey--508790331.html

Seems that DJ is looking for something different than what Brey had planned for him for next season. Given that the Irish signed three 4-star SGs in the class right after DJ, I'd wager that playing time was a concern.

I concur. DJ probably sees the crowded bench situation @ ND with his position group and is looking for expanded opportunities for his last two years. Players want to play!

I guess JLo doesn't know Garza.

PS: yeah, I know I'm a creeper.

Garza did not go to DeMatha, he played AAU ball with Harvey.
