DJK's Book

That's true. We should hate the guy and call him a moron. All he ever did is start for the Hawks for 3.5 years at WR, be one of the two or three best WRs in Hawkeye history, and be an electrifying special teams guy who ALWAYS cheered on his teammates and was always thought of as a team first guy.

He (rightfully) believed he was slighted and thrown under the bus by Kirk by being kicked off the team simply because he was CHARGED for a petty drug offense that he was later exonerated for and the charges were dismissed. When Kirk's own son got an alcohol offense, then another alcohol offense, the kid missed one game ever and is still beloved. Meanwhile DJK was prevented from coming back to being a part of the Hawkeye family after his 4 year career was up.

I have a feeling if the color of his skin were different, he would be looked at by the hicks on this board who call him a "moron" as another Tim Dwight.
Wouldn't expect anything else from you! At least we know your screen name DJK.

Yes Brandon Wegher is idolized on this board because he is white. You are ridiculous.

I don't know Clayborn, but I saw him around (dude was hard to miss). He always seemed like a cool, nice guy. DJK is the sort of personality where I think you'd have to know him personally, and well, to know whether he's a douche, or just different enough to not fit the mold here. Like, he comes off as having an do thing, but I've known legitimately good, cool people who came off that way from a distance.

Bottom line: We're not in a position to judge at all. I guarantee there are guys who said the right things, but were complete douchebags. And vice versa. Honestly, this is part of why I made a point to avoid the circles Hawkeye players ran in. I'd rather root for the team without having in the back of my mind that one of our best players is a dick head (and some are).

The little bits I heard in passing from people who did run in those circles were bad enough (not in the sense that anyone did anything wrong, just weird personal details - rumors - that one hears).

Really???? The color of his skin plays into this??

A young college or pro athlete who regrets some of his past actions or stuff he said when he was in his early 20s. Man we've never seen this story before. DJK is one of many to go down this path where he felt it was other people's fault for his issues and troubles etc. At least now he can man up to it and supporting Iowa again. About all we can ask for as Iowa fans supporting the program and owning up to his past mistakes.

DJK is smart, engaging, charismatic, but most importantly he's incredibly narcissistic. The only thing he loved more than himself was having others love him. He loved the stardom and attention, and would be pretty engaging with fans that would want to talk to him about football.

While he could be very engaging, and was generally nice to everyone he met, he rubbed many people the wrong way because it was rather obvious he felt he was better than everyone else, and whatever he did, he needed to be the center of attention.

Watching The People vs. OJ Simpson reminded me a lot of DJK. Everyone in Iowa City loved him, and he loved them back which just further fed his narcissism. When he was kicked off the team and the fans turned on him, he became very bitter and said a lot of stupid things.

I do think he is a genuinely nice guy, and that his football success inflated his ego to an unhealthy level. It sounds like he has matured since he graduated, and I wish him all the best.

Well Iowa going unbeaten seemed to coincide with DJK's maturity. When people start calling for KF to be fired again lets see if his maturity goes away and we get the old DJK. I am betting we do.

Whatever happened to his, "Tell All," book that he was going to get published? The one that was going to expose KF and Iowa Football. What a friggin moron.

I don't understand why people feel the need to beat a dead horse, especially fans. As the best fans in the country I hold us to a higher standard than cyclown and husker fans. If anything why don't we talk about how since his regrettable indiscretions he has been openly rooting and pitching to recruits (ex. Benjamin and Martin). I saw a guy post the conversation he just recently had with DJK and I think I'll post it in this thread, he openly admits he was a bit wild and shows great respect for Kirk. Let us remember this DJK and the one that made so many great plays, rather than a few moments that some fans seemingly can not let go.

Go Hawks!

Neat.

I'm not exactly talking from a fan perspective. I met him enough times to know he was a douche. I just still find it incredibly funny that he was basically trying to threaten the entire Football program with a book of lies.

I would love to know in what setting you met DJK for you to think this about him.

During my undergrad my girlfriend had a roommate that was a tiny little blonde sorority girl. She was prob Iowa 9/10 (West coast 6/10). Girlfriend told me one morning "Adrian Clayborn just left my roommates room." He had to have split her like a wish bone.

You have to admit the guy was a great receiver!!! I don't know how many games he won for us making clutch receptions!! One of my favorites catching the ball, KF didn't seem to care for him, but couldn't afford to keep him off the field.
