You would think the advent of smart phones would have killed the demand for this once-popular hotel service...

They don't send someone like her to wake you up?

Pity.

I never had a hotel do this because I probably wouldn't be up for talking on the phone in the morning.

There's no one to talk with anymore,.. They just program the switchboard to ring you room at the designated time. You pick up and there's nobody there..

If I have an early flight, I set a wake up call and shuttle/taxi up at check in. Most recently was about 4 months ago.

Just stayed at a hotel in Sedona a week ago, didn't even have the front desk staffed after 9pm, someone came in at 8am to start the day. Found that interesting. No wake up call there.

Along the same lines, checked into a place tonight that still has a guest services book in the room. One of the recommended restaurants is across the street. From the looks of it they’ve been closed for 2-3 years.
Also, no TV channel guide, just a QR code. No way I’m using that and giving my phone a the AIDS

I worked front desk at a hotel in college around 1999-2000
