He has done very well at Iowa and a big time year this year means the Hawks could have a great year. He is probably going pro no matter what but 1500 yards and 11 TDS might get 1st or 2nd round.

Three years of carries and big workload this year with great success then it is time to go.

We have Leshon, Moulton, Jazz and some newer guys and they are very good.

Absolutely. Its always good for the program to have guys shine and move on. We have some good RB's in the freshman class as well, so for sure....

Given what he's shown, I would be surprised if this isn't already his last year even if his number dip in B1G play. The shelf life for NFL RBs is so short now.

On a similar note, I think PJ Fleck owes Mo Ibrahim some compensation considering Minny quite literally ran his potential NFL career into the ground.

Would depend on if he gets a draft grade. I’d expect him to put his name in for evaluation at the very least.

Sort answer is YES.

But, I have serious doubts that an Iowa running back can gain the amount of yardage needed to be in the Heisman discussion. OL doesn't seem to be good enough to make a path for him against good opponents. Hope I'm wrong.

We'll get some clues tomorrow night.

absolutely, but as stated above, there have been a total of 3 Heisman trophy winning RBs in the last 30 years. Melvin Gordon was absolutely screwed his junior season, and those numbers were only topped by the greatest college back of all time, Barry Sanders.

I think Leshon is a senior, but the cupboard certainly would not be bare even if he and Johnson both leave after the end of the season.

RBs just don’t win Heisman anymore, and no one is going to have a candidate who’s not or a playoff-caliber team

It’s almost all QBs now

He'll have to put up WAY better numbers than 1500 yards/11TDs if he wants to be a Heisman finalist on this team. Think barry sanders numbers which were 2628 yards, 7.6 ypc, 37 TDs in 11 games.

LeShon is gone after this season, but otherwise the RB room is still full. That also does not count whatever production this year's red shirting freshmen RBs can contribute.

I'm thinking more like north of 1800 yards and 18 TDs.

Yeah, it was just some numbers I entered in

If it means he accomplishes 1500+ yards, absolutely! It would also mean we're winning and doing it well. It'd suck to see him go next year but our backups are pretty damn capable too. Having another Heisman winner here would certainly be a fair trade off for him leaving early.

He asked a "Heisman type season". Nobody is putting up Sanders type numbers 2600 and 37tds, and nobody would get the carries needed to do that in todays games. For reference Shonne Greene won the Doak Walker and was a heisman finalist with 1850yds and 20 tds his last year and KJ is on pace currently for that type of year. I believe we were 8-3 that year before the bowl game, so probably similar teams as well. Will he win the heisman? Very doubtful, but he could certainly have that type of year.

Great post!

He's not winning the Heisman, barring some miracle numbers to finish the year.
But he could still turn in a performance worthy of a third round pick. If that happens he should jump. Careers of most football players don't last all that long. If the NFL wants him then take the money ASAP.

He needs to stay healthy and enter the draft, Size speed and has shown He can pass block and catch the ball some out of the backfield . I think He is the first Iowa back in a longtime with all the tools needed to be a 3 down back in the League. Long term Him having a great Year and going to a RB needy Team does the program more good than Him staying in a Year Iowa is destroyed by graduation
