Dochterman was on On Iowa Live last night in eastern Iowa. Scott talked about senior night and how emotional Richman was and spoke about him (Scott) being at an I Club event last off season in Kansas City area and Mason's parents were just effusive in praise about how good Iowa was to their son.

Scott also said many teams tried tampering and talking Mason into leaving Iowa last offseason to come play with them and he turned down what Scott said was significantly more money and stayed. I can only assume the "tampering" came from the other teams NIL groups and could not come directly from coaches or there would be penalties involved. So we know that kids are being approached who aren't in the portal to entice them into the portal.

He will make an NFL roster, maybe as a guard but he will make one barring injury. Remember last year the kid was playing on a broken lower leg.

If it were from the NIL groups, it wouldn’t have been tampering.

Just because they did it, doesn’t mean there are consequences.

Dude it is tampering by every measure but the current NCAA rule language and because they cannot control what any outside person or entity communicates to an athlete. Coaches or university employees, yes.

I may have been mistaken in what you are suggesting, but an NIL has loopholes for speaking to athletes that do not exist for coaches. Considering the NIL “isn’t affiliated” (yeah, right) with the school. I suppose coaches have always used some of the same loopholes, but now they don’t have to.

It seemed you were suggesting an NIL collective, and a coach being in contact with a player are the same thing? You’re probably not, but it came off that way to my dumb brain.

One thing I am 100% certain about. Just because a coach contacts a player in no way guarantees punishment. Hell, there a thousand examples of iron clad proof that didn’t result in any punishment. That is hill I will die on.

Again, I’m sure it’s just a mistake on my interpretation of what you wrote.

This can't be, can it? The last three years we've heard nothing here from some posters on just how bad he is, along with the rest of the OL. Who would want such a player?

Yah sure, wink wink.

And if you are referring to all the crap Harbaugh basically got away with then yeah, although he did do the self ban for 6 games.

Do you think Har-blow even gives it a moment's thought how pathetic it is that he was suspended twice during his National Championship season?

He's right. Coaches tamper and the NCAA looks the other way. It's a free for all so you might as well disregard the few rules left because they aren't enforced.
