Alford posts never get old. UCLA is12-7 and down by 10 at half, losing to Dana Altman and Oregon. His team has talent but plays very disjointed. And a weak bench. Can't imagine he gets another year if he doesn't even make the NCAAs.

I think he makes it to next season if he gets them into the NCAA Tourney. Unless they are significantly better next season I think his tenure at UCLA will be over.

Neal's team is only 10-8. His son is scoring 14 points a game. Maybe they would take Alford back.

Doesn't he make an outrageous amount of money? I bet his buyout is huge.

The AD at UCLA is pretty universally hated by their fanbase and doesn't exactly come across as a guy that's desperate to win or fire a coach and pay him a boatload of money to go away.

I'm sure Shaq's coddled son will take them to the promise land.......................

I think I heard he has two McD's All-Americans coming in next year. So if Alford doesn't start winning soon I imagine his seat will be scalding hot. Talent clearly won't be the problem.

I believe Bryce Alford is only a Junior this year. He is the
leading scorer for UCLA. So Steve Alford has at least one
more year for the Bruins. There is parity in the Pac-10
basketball conference.

Didn't Iowa's Ancyient Marinare predecessor at UCLA get fired after winning the PAC 10 5 times in 8 years and getting to three FFs. Alford will find a job. His only real greatness is self-promotion.

You're not really disagreeing with him. SA started the slide downward. How many NCAA games did he win at Iowa? Case closed.
I know some people can't get over their hatred of all things Alford, but the mess Fran took over had absolutely ZERO to do with Alford. That historically bad mess was all Lick. Worst 3 year period of Iowa basketball in something like 70 years. Look where Lick is coaching now. Case closed.

Not true. Alford burned down the house before he left.

Wrong, Alford started the mess, snuck out of town in the middle of the night, and Barta, being the new guy and desperate to make a splashy hire, gave us Lackluster. Alford started it all. Lackluster just put a fork in us.

Alford left the bare cupboard--but Freeman, Tate, Cole, Kelly were decent players, Gatens was a legacy that committed during Alford era. Lickliter's best record was with Alford's leftovers.

Lickliter burned the kitchen down. Marble fell in LIck's lap as legacy and that is only good player Lick recruited that stuck. Brust fell in Lick's lap because he was buddy with Cully Payne, but to keep Brust you had to keep Lickliter, and that was a losing trade.

This is where basic math comes in. NO one said Lick didn't suck at a record level. They just said that the program had developed an allergy to the big dance starting with Alford. The 20 years preceding him tells you what you need to know. History probably isn't your strength.

I would agree he didn't burn it down. But he did pour some lighter fluid on it and Lick brought a fistful of matches when he arrived.

Yeah, I'm sure they fire a guy that has made it to two sweet 16's his first two years there.

Inked some major recruits. Bet he has another year.

As always I wonder why anyone cares what the future holds for Stevie Wonder.

For a while I think people needed validation that SA was the reason that Iowa couldn't become a top 10 team. Obviously it's been proven that you can have a top team here so it doesn't really matter now.

If I remember some people on here was saying Frans seat was getting pretty hot after the first 8-9 games. Funny I don`t here that anymore. Thanks...

Are you unfamiliar with UCLA's recent coaching history?
Yes, are you? Howland did great when he first started at UCLA then not so good his last five years. Lavin, again great but couldn't get over the hump. Harrick before that. All coached 7 years or longer. All given the chance to see if they could bring back UCLA. The common theme all given plenty of time. Not three years and after 2 sweet 16's. Two of them had other issues that were reasons they were shown to the curb. Alford will be given a couple more years with the class he has coming in.

Hawks coming off their best season in: (a) regular season in 18 years; (b) NCAA 13 seasons this year. There was no time this season when McC's seat was anything but the most comfortable of temperatures. Howland went to three FFs and had just won the conference when he was fired. That is not a tolerant fan base of administration.

He was a douche, absolutely.
Iowa was actually fortunate at the end of his time here that he left and saved them money on a buyout.
As to whether or not he gets another year at ucla, I don't care. He's not at Iowa anymore and that's the best outcome for the Hawks program.
