...into the Gonzaga of the Midwest?

Is McCollum the next Mark Few?

Iowa or any other P4 will pay him 3X to 4X to coach at their school. But if you go to Iowa or any other P4 school, you're just a highly paid employee. Yes you make more money, but you have to do a ton of 🫏 kissing to appease the AD and Billy-Bob booster, especially in the era of NIL.

But what if it isn't about money for him, and he decides that he already makes "enough" at Drake? In the words of Frank Costello, "You can't do anything with a man like that."

If he stays at Drake, the script is flipped, and the AD and the boosters are now catering to him, making sure he's happy and they're doing whatever they can to keep him there.

I'm guessing Drake would find a way to pay him at least $1 million per year, don't you think?

That's the choice: $1 million to be the king, or $3 to $4 million to be the subject?

Also, if he stays at Drake his legacy could be more than basketball, and he could get credit for really putting them on the map (like Few at Gonzaga).

The guy seems pretty patient and pretty disciplined in how he chooses his career moves. I won't be shocked if he decides to take the "road less traveled" and stay at Drake.

If Drake was a Catholic school with bottomless money I could see it. But they are what they are. He will get his payday where he thinks he can succeed.

I doubt he'll stay at Drake but can definitely see him staying there for a little while. Seems like a guy that cares about integrity and loyalty. Might be tougher to get him after only one year at his current school. Who knows though. Maybe Iowa is about as good as it gets as far as he's concerned.

Drake once was the Gonzaga of the mid-west back in the 60's and early 70's. But I say why now not let Ben turn Iowa into the Gonzaga of the mid-west instead?
Never forget 1969 Final Four when they faced UCLA with Lew Alcindor and lost by 3. Maury John was their coach, old button belly defense he was famous for.

That was an incredible team. Lost to UCLA by3, then blew out North Carolina in the consolation game by 20. IMO the best team to come out of Iowa.

Is he going to turn down double digit millions to stay at Drake....for basketball?

Did you really present this as a serious question?
