Trust me on this: as shady as this committee is as long as you guys win the Big 10 you'll be in.

The whole crux of the committee is to put a huge emphasis on winning your Conference Championship.

Last year the 4 Playoff participants ultimately were all Power 5 members that all won their Conference minus the Big 12 winner.

The Pac 12 looks likely to be left out this season.

Now the procedures do allow the committee to choose more than one team from a given conference in the name of selecting the 4 best teams.

But can you imagine the firestorm that would occur if Iowa were to go undefeated and win the Big 10 and a 1 loss team like Alabama finishes 2nd in the SEC to a 2 loss Ole Miss and both Ole Miss and Alabama go instead of Iowa?

In all likelihood they go with all conference winners and they haven't established any precedent for taking 2 or 3 teams from the SEC as an example. It will all work itself out as long as you guys take care of your business.

I agree with your premise. Not to mention a lot of football to be played yet. I also agree that the Pac12 gets left out. But unlike last year, they have the Notre Lame factor as well. Would be fantastic if Pitt beat ND this weekend.

Meh. You'll have to excuse our collective hyperventilation. We're not quite as experienced at being in this whole "top teams in the country" discussion as you have been the past few years.

2009 is a long time ago to some of us. And even then it wasn't as bad as this because most of us and most of the pundits expected Iowa to be pretty good in 2009 after a solid 9-win 2008 season that ended with a stomping of South Carolina in the Outback Bowl.

This year has sort of been a bolt out of the blue after 5 seasons of mediocrity. Hell it could all come crashing down to Earth on Saturday in Bloomington, sort of like yours did in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. So we'll just try to enjoy our time in the sunshine for however long it lasts. :)

After last night I fear that "The Committee" is going to screw it up and begin to look more and more like the BCS fiasco. Once the committee loses the public they are toast. I expect us to end up with a real playoff scheme just like the lower divisions do soon.

I compare it to Poker. The committee can spew all these different rankings on a weekly basis. But December 6 is when they have to show their cards. They'll care more about what the public thinks about the December 6 ranking than they do all these weekly rankings.

Not if we lose game we wont be. I agree if you mean that we go undefeated and win it. If we lose to debbie, but then still beat osu i dont think we are in. We have to go undefeated.

Most likely, you are correct. It would take a lot of help for a 12-1 B1G champion Iowa team to still make the playoff.

12 wins won't get us in unless we have A LOT of help. I am not personally banking on making the CFP but rather enjoying this season for now and hoping to see a competitive game in Indy. If we do go undefeated then no way we are kept out.

Yes. Bama at #4 was to get attention. Put Bama and LSU in the top 4 knowing they play each other this weekend guarantees there will be a different combination of 4 next week. The Committee wants the controversy. At least for now.
