195: No. 4 John Borst (Sherando, Va.) vs. No. 1 Jacob Warner (Washington)

Borst is a three-time state champion, also winning a title at the Super 32 Challenge this past fall. In addition, he was fifth at the FloNationals and a NHSCA Junior Nationals champion last spring, along with a Junior National freestyle runner-up this past summer. Warner is a three-time state champion, finishing runner-up as a freshman. He was a Cadet World bronze medalist in freestyle this past fall. In addition, Warner was a three-time UWW Cadet freestyle All-American and a 2015 Cadet National double champion.

Intermat Preview

Should be a good match. I think Borst has signed with Virginia Tech if I remember right.

That looked like a high school senior against a 6th grader and I have to assume that other kid is pretty darn good. Is Warner just that good? I cant wait till midlands now. Wheres the time machine?

I agree chief. I like the way he wrestles. He's smooth and yet, powerful when need be. High wrestling IQ, you can see that in his mannerisms when he's on the mat. Good luck to him

I absolutely love Warner as a prospect. I really liked Kolin Moore and I had told my Ohio State friends (which are many) that Warner is a rich man's Kolin Moore.

Moore is likely to be the #1 ranked wrestler at 197 to enter the season as a Sophomore. He was an not a top 100 recruit though (I don't know how). I have Lee, Fix, and Warner as the best prospect in the class and I am not sure how I would rank them.

This class in Illinois was thought to be elite for awhile now with Gomez always being the lead guy. Renteria and O'Conner were right behind with Warner. Brucki, Norfleet, and Hernandez were in the next tier and people thought they were going to be blue chip recruits as well.

However, in the last two seasons, Warner has just blown the three other "top" guys completely out of the water. It is now Warner then everyone else. Gomez, Renteria, O'Conner, Brucki, Norfleet, and even late bloomers Punke, McGee who are nationally ranked now as 125 recruits, are firmly behind Warner.

If I was a college coach and I could only get one recruit in the entire country in would be Warner. I know, I know Spencer Lee is awesome. However, with the injury history and another recruit in Fix who has beat him and could end up in the same weight class (although I think Fix will be a 133 and maybe eventually even a 141, even if he starts at 125 as a Freshmen). Where as Warner is a Machine who will be a title contender as a RS Freshmen and I think will dominate his class ala Nolf or Retherford for the next three years, where the only question going into his matches will be about bonus points. That's how good he is.

High praise. I hope you are right.

Warner and Lee are exactly the kind of recruits Iowa needs. Along with Marinelli, Kemerer and Young, Iowa is really loading up and building a team that brings us a national championship.

Maybe Holloway will get back to 197 and turn the corner. He did beat Moore 6-1 at Disney Duals the same year he pinned Hunter Ritter there. If only.

Intermat article Warner mention.

Impressive creds:
195: Jacob Warner (Washington, Ill.)

The Iowa signee was undefeated during his senior season on the way to a third state title and fourth state finals appearance. Warner was a Cadet World bronze medalist in freestyle during the past off-season, and was champion at the Walsh Ironman during the season. In addition to the UWW Cadet National title in freestyle last spring, he also won the Greco-Roman event. Also on the resume for Warner is a Cadet National double title in 2015 along with UWW Cadet National freestyle All-American finishes in 2014 and 2015.

Ok..Now I'm confused. Is Warner going to be the greatest college wrestler ever or is Spencer Lee?

Not the greatest ever. I think he is the best recruit from Illinois thus year and I think either Lee, Fix, or Warner are the top recruit in this recruiting cycle.

I would personally take him over Lee or Fix because of his weight class. Just from arbitrary observation, it appears to me that recruiting the 197 weight class has been more difficult to recruit recently.

Warner and Moore are going to have some epic battles before they're done. Moore looks like he's going to be really tough to beat the next few years.
