DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A man was arrested after he hit a vehicle stopped at a red light - while two Davenport Police officers were at the same intersection.
Joel Watkins, 35, of Davenport, was arrested late Monday night and charged with operating while under the influence-first offense, and for failure to stop in time.
According to the arrest report, two Davenport Police officers were at Brady and Locust on Monday and saw a pickup hit another vehicle stopped at a red light at 11:37 p.m.
Officers reported the pickup driver, Watkins, had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.
He said he had drank six beers and 3.5 Jager bombs an hour-and-a-half earlier. He also had an open container of alcohol in his pickup that was within his reach.
Officers reported that Watkins failed a field sobriety test and his blood alcohol level was 0.22, nearly three times the legal limit.
