Cook's conference advanced metrics tell the truth. His player efficiency rating is only 16.7 and a WS/40 of only .072 in conference play.
His total, including non-conference opponents, was a solid PER of 19.3 and WS/40 of .122.
He did well in non-conference play but was below average in Big Ten play. For all the things he does well, his liabilities including, inability to shoot, poor FT average, below average defense and a high turnover rate, made him an average player at best.
He won't be as difficult to replace as some believe. Some may point to his energy like the second half vs Tennessee but his poor play in the first half of the Tenn and Cincy games was largely responsible for the large deficits Iowa incurred.
Secondly, his style of play contrasts with the rest of the roster. He can be a black hole when he receives the ball without the ability to pass out to open shooters. Players like Nunge with more range will be able to spread the floor more. Nunge should be ideal in the pick and role because unlike Garza, he can handle the ball and unlike Cook, he can hit the 15 footer.
If Cook is back I think he'll add value and the type of skill set we don't have elsewhere on the roster but I also feel comfortable with Nunge, Pemsl, Garza and Kriener handling the 4-5 spots.
