We just wrapped up our first weekly presser with the players. Little different this year. Back in-person instead of over Zoom, but outdoors for the time being. Think it went ok.
Spoke with Tyler Goodson. One thing that he said was he's kind of hoping they throw out of the Wildcat this year. He said he loves playing out of it and got a big smile on his face when I asked him about it. Think he said in high school he was 5-5 throwing out of it. Said they have worked on some of it, but unsure if or when they might use it.
Asked Jack Campbell about the move back to MLB. He said that he worked at all three spots during fall camp, so it wasn't a huge deal to him. He said he went back to middle when they started game prep. While he didn't come out and say he likes it better at middle linebacker, he kind of see he likes it better there.
Talked to Sam LaPorta and he was pretty confident in the rest of the group at tight end. He said he expects that Lachey, Miamen, and Yelverton all play on Saturday.
Visited with Petras and he was pretty relaxed. Said that is something he has continued to work on and feels more comfortable. Said that Indiana is going to bring pressure and he will have to be ready for it. Seems pretty confident he will.
Asked Linderbaum about the OL and the young and the pressure Indiana brings. He's confident in the young guys and says that even though they haven't played a game yet, he feels like their are comfortable with each other. Seems really high on Mason Richman as well.
Talked to Belton and Moss about the secondary in this game. Penix likes to throw it deep and moves around. Threat to run, but not a huge runner. Said they have to stay in their coverage and also be solid tacklers in this game.
Lastly, spoke with John Waggoner and he feels like the younger guys on the defensive line really came along in camp. John is really excited to have his opportunity to start at Iowa.
