Doesn’t mean those fans are wrong. I believe Tennessee was a 4 1/2 point favorite last year.
Early line vs Tennessee as high as 9.
Early line vs Mizzou as low as 1.5
Huge difference.
Even at Tennessee-4.5, the result of a blowout is an outlier at that spread. Rarely has Iowa been blown out as a less than a TD dog or as a favorite.
The sentiment that Iowa is going to get blown out isn't nearly as probable as it is popular
I haven't noticed the daily overreactions or the blowout predictions. It's not an important bowl game that a lot of people are interested in.
Sharps are actually usually the ones in early on games and moving the line. Then the public comes in on game day.
Bowl games can have later sharp action though, as more info of opt-outs comes in
Not a bettor so it matters not to me, but seems like getting a handle on what team might actually show up for one these exhibition/bowl games is virtually impossible.
The level of incompetence of Deacon Hill could not be fully appreciated, even by the Las Vegas bookmakers, and apparently the betting public for allowing that line to stand.
They don't build all of those palaces out in Vegas because they are routinely wrong. I'll take my chances with what Vegas thinks over message board fans any time.
