Yah but it's the most recent trip West. OMG we lost those other game 8-10 years ago so they must be a factor.1 game

The “travel factor” is routinely over-rated and mostly serves as a weak excuse for poor performances. Direct flight from Iowa to LA is around 4 hours. NBD for a 20yo athlete.I also think the "travel" factor is being overplayed. UCLA was just in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon so if anything they have less "rest" time than Iowa by the time they actually got home.
KF was still the HC, his prep work on bye weeks and Westerly travel has been less then stellarYah but it's the most recent trip West. OMG we lost those other game 8-10 years ago so they must be a factor.
In my experience jet lag is much less of an issue flying west than flying east.Or the 2004 trip to ASU! I hope the team is already in Los Angeles or will arrive today. Anyone who has ever flown two time zones away knows how real jet lag can be. The coast-to-coast B1G games are wild to think about.
Hawks are not leaving Iowa City until Thursday fwiwIn my experience jet lag is much less of an issue flying west than flying east.
‘19 Holiday Bowl! The Holiday Bowl vs USC seemed pretty good.
The OSU game was at home, so is a non sequitur.‘19 Holiday Bowl!
Drink!
Hey, how ‘bout that ‘17 Ohio St game?
Agreed. Putting the home field advantage and time zone thing aside when Iowa has played in the Rose Bowl it has been against very good teams, this visit is really just about UCLA having the home field advantage and the time zone thing. The Rose Bowl “curse” has coincided with Iowa playing some pretty damn good teams.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m guessing Iowa’s record against the team representing the Pac 8/10/12 champion would probably be pretty poor anywhere other than Kinnick Stadium, and maybe there too.
There’s no fvcking curse. They have lost to the better team every time, save maybe the ‘86 game against UCLA.
Unfortunately I agree with you. Hope we are both wrong and the Hawks Roll! The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that we’ll see something closer to Hawkeyes that played Michigan State than the ones that played Washington or Wisconsin.
I am not optimistic about this game. I’ll be overjoyed if I’m wrong, but I expect us to come out a step behind all night.
Hope the UCLA fans fill up the BB arena and more.Rose Bowl stadium curse is on the line Friday night.
I realize the stadium isn’t remotely close to the UCLA campus but it’s also odd they have a home men’s basketball game starting during the football game.
Yes, for some reason I thought the score was much worse. They did not "spank Nebraska", even after their QB got knocked out it was a one score game. Iowa "Spanked" Wisconsin. Thats what a spanking looks like....
Iowa pickers picking Iowa? GTFOOH!For those of you that subscribe to the CR Gazette (not like the Gazette of years gone by unfortunately), 5 of 6 “expert pickers” say the Hawks will win. Go Hawks!
Yes, Iowa played pac12 champs in the rose bowl. We were underdogs in those games. This is a regular season big10 game. The Rose Bowl “curse” has coincided with Iowa playing some pretty damn good teams.

UCLA was ahead 27-7 at one point. If you checked out at that point, you’d assume it was not competitive.Yes, for some reason I thought the score was much worse.
They only played the Pac12 champs in the Rose Bowl once.😉Yes, Iowa played pac12 champs in the rose bowl. We were underdogs in those games. This is a regular season big10 game.
We looked liked dog s*** after a short trip to East Lansing. The “travel factor” is routinely over-rated and mostly serves as a weak excuse for poor performances. Direct flight from Iowa to LA is around 4 hours. NBD for a 20yo athlete.
I know but the short trip was inconsequential to the poor performance. We looked liked dog s*** after a short trip to East Lansing.
That was a Cade game….this is Sully! We’re playing with more Swagger on both sides of the ball. If our secondary can avoid getting burned more than once we should be in this game. The running game has to succeed against a good run defense.I know but the short trip was inconsequential to the poor performance.
Thats what a lot of fans up here in NE Iowa think and I hope you and they are correct!!I haven't felt great about his game since I saw it on the schedule, but we have a few things working in our favor:
1. Coming off our best performance of the year.
2. The D has awakened and has played lights out the last two weeks. Defense travels well.
3. We're running it great, and Sullivan obviously adds a lot of punch to the run game and the O in general. A good run game travels well.
I think the Hawks have a renewed sense of hunger and confidence and that they're seeing that a 9-3 season plus a possible 10-win season with a bowl win puts them in pretty elite company where Iowa football history is concerned. As long as they don't lose the turnover battle, I think the Hawks get it done in the Rose Bowl for the first time in about 6 decades.
