Earth changed during pandemic

The planet will not die from turtles or salmon. It will die from humans. Skate it however you want.
Earth ain't gonna die. We're gonna die.

But I have absolutely zero time for the activists who really want most to see a total depopulation, and absolute elimination of industry or property)
You may not have a choice. Population growth worldwide will drop below replacement numbers this century. Education of females, degraded sperm, married couples where both work to make ends meet, contraceptives. Climate change is driving droughts and crop failures and resultant famines. Some demographers say the world population in 2100 will be lower than the current population. China alone could lose over half a billion in population this century.

For the better. Watched a documentary about how well Earth did during lockdown. Animals thrived. Pollution was down. Humans don't deserve this planet
mandates, executive orders, oligarchy and totalitarianism are bad, oh, except when they pander to people haters.

And there you have it. The quiet part out loud.

Keep that in mind when you here environmental advocates on this board or anywhere else trying to tell you it's just common sense science that we must x, y, z immediately to stave off the planet bursting into flame.

At the core, the vast majority of environmentalists want no economies, no (or way fewer) humans, no industry, no markets. It's an anti-human philosophy. The idea of massive human misery, population collapse, economic collapse, barely subsistance surviving...that isn't the unfortunate side effect of the drastic policies they claim are needed...they are the point.

(I'm not anti-environmetal, and I think we should be taking steps to ensure the health of the planet. But I have absolutely zero time for the activists who really want most to see a total depopulation, and absolute elimination of industry or property)
This a 1000x

One gazillion percent. Another reason why the population bomb environmental hand wringing from environmental whackos was goofy. Not only did we easily exceed supporting many billions more than the doomsayers claimed we could, while MASSIVELY reducing hunger and starvation, capitalism literally raised the world's standard of living so much that we're going to have population decline. The massive concern of environmental anti-capitalists for 50-100 years is being solved by capitalism.

Not that the things you mention aren't important, but the main reason is that as standards of living increase, fertility decreases. Always and everywhere, increases in economic security, food security, financial freedom, life expectancy, etc results in reduced birth rates. Big families have always been common in the poor, the working classes, etc. For plenty of reasons that have nothing to do with famines or sperm counts, people with more economic security and more economic options opt for less kids than the poor.

And the number of truly poor in the world is down to a rounding error compared to any other time in human history. We've effectively eliminated systemic hunger in the world in our lifetime, something unimaginable half a century ago, let alone 500 years ago.

China has some additional factors of course that will hit them even harder.

That's not to say that I don't think population collapse is a bad thing, it is. But most of the proposed solutions to it are so silly as to be unworthy of discussion. I especially love how importing the social suport policies of Europe like family leave and universal healthcare is supposed to help. There may or may not be reasons to do those on their own merits, but Europe's European population is in total freefall, and they've had highly socialist economies for generations.

There will be very little that can be done to reverse the population decline other than extremely radical cultural realignment.

lol, you’re a weird guy.

"Pollution was down"

No. It wasn't. Too bad they don't make edible face masks so all you sheep could have eaten them after you used them instead of polluting the environment.

How come a city in India could see the Himalyan mountains for the first time in 30 years? How about whales breeding at record levels without all the cruise ships, etc.?

watch the documentary before you spew any more garbage. You are out of your element

I’ve literally never seen anybody with this position.

Almost all of the activists endorse massive depopulation openly, or if they want to be subtle, the constriction of economies well beyond the ability to support anywhere near the current number of humans.

That might not be the view of every person that just generally "cares about the environment". But all your bleeding edge environmental parties want exactly that. Why do you think they fight tooth and nail the ability to build any housing or anything that advances human progress, including blocking green energy and public transit projects.

The average earth friendly thinking person is like "We need to transition to clean energy. We need to build thoughtful high density housing and mass transit that reduces much of the the need for pollution emitting vehicles." That sounds fine in theory, but that's not what the actual environmental advocacy groups are working toward. They absolutely use lawfare to attempt to prevent building housing, building transit, building wind and solar, building transmission lines, battery factories...anything. They cripple it all, any place where progressive "environmentally friendly" governments, or the courts, give them the power to. The goal of the activist orgs is complete stall of human progress.

Out of my element?

Says the clown who didn't even link this 'must see' documentary everyone is talking about.

I'm sure its fascinating, though.

Do I need to come to your house and load it up on Appletv for you? Need me to force you to put on your big boy pants?

Just watch it and then come back with your usual b.s.
You not only didn't link this supposedly uplifting documentary, you didn't even give us the name of it in case we were bored out of our minds and felt like watching some new age propaganda.

But to answer your question, No. I don't want you to come to my house and (attempt to) force me to do anything.

Lib idiots believe it’s healthy to have the least amount of physical human engagement as possible….Children in schools at the most impressionable time in their lives were deprived of reading facial expressions and the formation of words by watching teachers mouths.
These idiots would rather save fuel using zoom than protect the human spirit.
Depriving people of chemical attraction, bonding, organizational skills and basic ability to communicate,
Libs are such losers.
Gee lookie there I can see the Himalayas, but I’m so socially awkward I’ve never learned to look another person in the eye and carry on a conversation…. I’m mindful of my 6 foot space.
What a great time for nature

Assuming you abandoned your house, cars, heating and air conditioning, gas, electricity and cell phones to go live under a pile of sticks to help Mother Earth?

That would make President Trump the most environmentally friendly president in history.

Yep - my company spews a bunch of nonsense about being sustainable, then requires me and several thousand other people to drive into offices for meetings that are still majority virtual.

Good,
Get your ass up, out the door and deal with traffic and humanity.

It's extremely easy to find examples, especially now that some democrats and reasonable environmentalists are getting super pissed off about it. And you are about to see a lot more when they try to block rebuilding anything from the LA fires.
just to be clear, two of your examples are groups suing to (1) stop an energy transmittion line and (2) enable nyc's congestion pricing to go into effect (sorry, but i'm not sifting through that grad school essay for "examples")

sure...if you dig around online, you can find examples of some environmental group suing to stop some project

but if you think the major hurdle to dense housing and transit investments is "environmental activists"...you've had a very different set of professional experiences than i have had

Spoken like a true mindless lemming
work from home has been a double edged sword

on one hand...it has reduced our need to make (some) huge transportation investments because most of our highways are designed to accommodate traffic during the AM or PM peak...and the more people work from home, the less dramatic those peaks are

on the other hand...downtowns and cities that had (albeit small) economies consisting of workers spending money buying lunch have taken a beating

An entertaining thread
‘Literally none’

‘Well it’s not many’

The name callers that only have that in their arsenal. No substance.

Keep it up.

You just described the Kamala campaign.
Now mask up, zoom and save the planet
