Iowa's SC legalized marriage and then 3 of them promptly lost their jobs the next election. Iowa wasn't all that progressive then either, but for the most part citizens were embarrassed to express their bigotry now they are proud of it.

The way I look at society and where it could potentially go is by realizing that stuff was worse in recent history and we are not in an actual age of enlightenment. Sometimes people are be hyperbolic but gay marriage is new, ending don't ask don't tell is new, and they were focused heavily on LGBT with their gender wars. So the logic jump of things reverting is tiny.
You can't say that! How will we ever get their votes by calling them names.
If they want the SCOTUS to overturn it they need to make a law against it or they need to do something which denies gay and lesbian couples a marriage license. One of them will inevitably sue and then Idaho can try and take it to the SCOTUS.
