Effect of losing last 2 games?

I would think I am not alone is saying I do not have much confidence in this team winning these last two games. If that happens is Iowa out of the NCAA tournament absent a decent showing in the BTT? I am not even sure what a decent showing would be.

Of course maybe they will surprise and win these last 2.

I think they'd still be in. But right now, Net rating is 41. Lose 2 (or 3) in a row, what is Iowa? #45? #50? It'd be interesting to see what would happen.

Honestly we just don't know, we don't know exactly how the committee will use the NET, etc.

I'm calling a 2010-11 UCONN championship run for this Iowa team right now.

I have no expectations and I think Dayton is on the radar at the VERY least when they lose out if not missing it. Would take a lot of bid stealing to happen but its on the radar now.

Others will disagree, but I think is put on the bubble if they lose both games.

I am not quite sure of the level of firestorm that would accompany missing the tournament this year. My guess is it would be nuclear.

And deservedly so. They miss out on this one, and Fran and team move to the shit list. I am so tired of 20 years of hope being crushed over and over.

I think you could probably have your choice of seating every night in Carver next year.

I’m sure the kids are hurting more than any of us fans over the last two losses against Ohio St and Rutgers. One of the many articles I read called the effort embarrassing, and placed the blame squarely on the players shoulders for coming out flat and unmotivated.

My hope is that they take that to heart and beat the crap out of Wis. it can happen. When Iowa is good, they’re really Good.

Hey, after 4 1/2 decades of watching the Hawks, I’m entitled to a bit of daydreaming. So, bug off. :)

B10 has consistently been #1 or #2 in the country in terms of conference strength. Difficult to see a 21-10, 10-10 in conference team get left out. If nothing else, it doesn't appear to be a strong bubble this year.

They need to get pissed and get on the same page and get after it. Show some balls and play like you have a pair. It also takes everyone. If you are not playing with purpose you need to sit.

If we lose out on the next three, that would put us at 1-5 on the last 6 games. Not sure where our NET would be at that point. I don't believe our Hawks will let that happen.

I believe both games left are NET 1 games. Correct me if I’m wrong, but a loss in either won’t really hurt Iowa. A win in either would definitely improve Iowa’s stock. The Rutgers loss was the dagger to the seed line.

This. The Rutgers loss hurt far more in terms of seeding, not getting into the tourney in general.

Need to beat Wisconsin or a good team in the big ten tourney to climb out of the 8/9 game. Our resume for a high seed was predicated on us not having a bad loss. I hope we can string some wins together and push for a 6 seed.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks were out of the NCAA tournament should they lose all 3 games.

Me either. Could you imagine falling to the NIT, playing the first round game in front of ~5,000 fans at CHA and losing? That would be a monumental collapse that would make '14 and '16 look like child's play. At any other Div 1 basketball program, that would spell the beginning of the end for the head coach. Of course, since we have the dumbest A.D. in the country, we fans get to suffer through similar stuff for at least another 7-8 years.

Yup. If we 0-3 and ISU tanks our Net number will drop and we will be last 4 in Dayton or NIT.

If we just win 1 more game then we will be a 10-11 seed. If we some how win the last 2 and then win 2-3 in BTT I think we get to the 6-7 seed line. Which would be nice.

Why would Iowa St specifically have that much of a bearing on Iowa's NCAA tourney chances?

It will not have a huge difference other than Iowa pretty much has two marque wins and that is one of them. Would be better for the Hawks if ISU was a 5 seed than if they are an 8 seed, but will not move the needle a ton for Iowa either way.

We are a high 8 seed right now in most brackets. We will not be out even if we lose two road games and the first game in the BTT. This Wisconsin game is not going to affect our Net either. It's a road game against a higher ranked team. Wisky is 17, Nebby is still 51. Depending on who we play first round of the BTT, on a neutral court, it won't affect our NET rating that much either (PSU 48, Nebby 51, Indy 55, Minny 56). That Rutgers loss at home dropped us so much, because they were pretty low 100s. Maybe a 10 seed, but many of you should go look at the 10/11 seeds right now.
10 seeds: Texas 16-14, OSU 18-11, NC State 20-9, Florida 17-12
11 seeds: St Johns 20-10, USU 25-6, TCU 18-12, Minny 19-11

You’re exactly right, but some on this board think Iowa is NIT bound

As poor a showing as that would be to go 0-3 to close out, it still appears that they would make the tourney.

Wouldn't be quite as impressive as the implosion a few years back after we reached top 5 ranking, but not making the tournament this year would be an impressive accomplishment even by Iowa standards.

I just want them to play with effort and urgency

Let the ncaa or nit fall where they may
