Celebrating losing close

What is wrong with some of us? I'm quite disappointed by the amount of people celebrating losing close to Michigan and ISU. Teams don't make the tournament by losing close games. Iowa dropped 11 spots in the NET by losing last night. Even 1-1 in the last two drastically improves the analytics. Those who keep saying Iowa will be alright, will be really disappointed come March 17th when Iowa is on the Vegas postseason tournament.
yeah, I do not get that mentality at all.
What I don't get it when someone is not as pissed off as others it's call "celebrating". I sure haven't seen anyone celebrating those losses. Or at least anything close to my definition of celebrating.

It's like when someone doesn't want to hang Fran or Kirk in effigy they are called "boot lickers".

When someone chooses to take an optimistic look at something, it's hardly celebrating. Maybe some people just don't want to live their lives being pissed off.

The glass can be looked at half full ……or half empty. I prefer half full. Life is to short!
There are a couple of more personality types to add to your list:
1) Optimists - those who think the glass is half full
2) Pessimists - those who think the glass is half empty
3) Six Sigma types - think you have twice as much glass infrastructure than you need and cut your budget
4) Victims - Wonder who the heck has been drinking out of their glass!

If you can claim victim status then it is someone else's fault and responsibility to change. It is passive, or at least passive aggressive.

Currently we're 90th DER in Kenpom. That makes us the 17th best defense in the B1G, ahead of only Rutgers (104).

To add some context -- 17th in an 18 team league really isn't that good (lol), especially when you consider that Rutgers has played a significantly tougher schedule than we have so far.
Thanks for posting - I too had thought our Defense was much improved, but maybe not.😉 (bar was just extremely low - much like our QB/WR play)

Without any rebounders besides Freeman. it’s hard to get too excited over this year’s addition of Fran Ball. 😢

I’m enjoying the season as much as ever, probably more. Sure wish they’d get a few signature wins when the opportunity presents itself itself but I remember being on the wrong end of blowouts. So far none of those

Fran had a 2 seed and a 5 seed out of those guys. Really should've been able to break through and make a bit of a run at least once with that group.

NCAA Tournament games are won with defense. Fran's teams are consistently among the worst in the country defensively. Those two teams were 239th and 246th in the country in points allowed per game.

Fran will never make a deep tournament run.

Never say never but if a dude has been coaching for 15 years at the high major level and has never made a Sweet 16, you have a pretty good idea of his ceiling.

Yeah, there's a false narrative around the tournament that the big ten doesn't succeed because it's too physical.

Yet the program that has done the best over the last twenty years has been the most physical one, Msu.

The tournament, and most of the rest of high major ball is more physical defensively on the perimeter than the b10.

Physical defensive guard play is usually tough for a typically constructed Fran team to handle.

This squad probably has the best chance of being able to handle it of any Fran team we've seen but the rebounding is going to kill any shot they have.

I don't think anyone should be happy or content that we lost - but being optimistic that they are playing better than many thought they would and that their defensive seems to be much improved is certainly OK.
This guy gets it ^^^. Many chose to focus on building from positives rather than bitching about negatives.

On this topic, I make a conscious effort to rid myself of the negative nellies of the world. They are a bummer and rarely provide any benefit to my life and usually cause some type of indirect harm, so adios.

Hey, we beat the Privateers ! That should make us a 5 seed.

I don't fault people who want to be optimistic. I'm not the fan police. Nor do I give a sh!t when others make comments about those of us who aren't hesitant to point out problems.

I'm continuing on that slow slide of apathy with Fran ball. At this point I can't muster much for enthusiasm nor annoyance. Mostly it's resignation to seeing the same weaknesses and flaws play out repeatedly.
Full blown apathy for Hawkeye BB is already here. Hawkeye football, wrestling and women’s bb are all selling out. The problem is not Hawkeye fans.

The only thing to enjoy about this season is $4 tickets and sitting wherever you want

If I was happy about anything about the ISU game it is that they played their butts off. My takeaway is that if they can do that they're going to be dancing in March.

If I was happy about anything about the Michigan loss it is that they got blitzed early and fought. Fell down by double digits late and fought back again, with a chance to win on the final possession. If they show that fight consistently this team is dancing in March.

I'm never someone that's "happy" about a loss. I'd like to think that after 41 years on this planet, I've matured enough as a sports fan to appreciate when the team I root for gives it everything they have, win or lose. I'll never complain when that happens. What will piss me off is when my teams (hello Bears) make the same mistakes and don't fix them, make stupid decisions, give poor effort, etc.
