Pretty much guaranteed,.. but defense will require a higher level of scrutiny...

You don’t have to take down defenses to review the finances.
DoD is the only department that hasn’t passed an audit. Personally I think that would be the place to start.

While I don’t bet on politics I do agree with you, I will be surprised If the DoD gets scrutiny, I will also say I have real concerns with Elon musk and his “kids” going through any department that has national security ties. What was the vetting process to give these people potential access to top secret information.

I've been in manufacturing for over 30 years l'm familiar with every catchphrase/lingo that's been tossed around in that time - I know "low hanging fruit".
I also know you can spend a ton of money and effort chasing down a tiny fraction of the problem while you ignore the huge percentage problems....{cough} Pentagon {cough}
They sure as heck better look into defense spending too.
It's a huge part of the reason we are trillions in debt. But that needs to also have deeper discussions on how to cut without substantially impacting the ability of the USA to protect it's citizens.
Maybe the need for a measured approach is the reason they aren't going after defense 1st? Or they are avoiding it for political reasons.... Which is unfortunately the most likely reason.

I'd say very little money and effort has been expended to date, so give them some time,.. Defense spending will be a little more complicated than condoms for Gaza..

No sir, the "needs more context" portion of the 11 occupy the "shred of truth" category. The 1/12 was straight up fraud.
Then maybe Elon should stop with the sensational headlines. Lots of buzz but with very little to show for it.
No, they need to demonstrate quick results to sell the DOGE program,.. Disappearing into a dark room to study things for 6 months and then issuing a very dry report only for congressional review has been proven not to work,.. They also need the public to be very much in the loop, so that congress will be forced to act...
Or they can present incomplete conclusions and do major damage in the process.
So far, their big accomplishment is to spearhead dismantling a popular and largely successful USAID program, with little impact otherwise.
They uncovered fraud in the government and people are going to end up in jail. But sure. "Little impact".
