Iowa draws Virginia in the first round of next year's tournament, per Jon Rothstein. Will play winner/loser of Memphis and Providence. Will be a huge test for a young team.

Looks like they return 3/5 starters, including their PG who ripped ISU up a few weeks ago. Brogdon, Gill, and Tobey are gone, so they may be a bit undersized. I bet they'll play defense though.

Tough test for you guys. Who else are you playing non-conf besides hosting ISU and neutral with UNI?

I would assume an ACC opponent, a Big East opponent, and probably some gimmes as well. Should be a pretty tough schedule and if you fare well, will have a good rpi going into conference play.

We play a pretty good non-con most years now and I like it. It's going to be a challenge for a young team but that's how you get the necessary experience.

Ugh that is going to be 2 ugly losses for Iowa...

Memphis/Providence doesn't scare me (especially if Bentil is gone). I wonder if Fran will play the RPI game to boost odds of making the tournament while letting the younger guys work through growing pains...

Iowa scheduled great this year in the non-conf, hope they do it again next year and won't have to worry about Drake dragging us down.

they are young but these all played unlike this year where there were 2 RSFR and 3 True FR who never played before,
it looks like this SR Jok, JR Uhl, RSSO Baer, RSSO Ellingson, SO Wagner and SO Williams, with RSSR Jones being a unknown, that makes 6 that played and a 7th that played before being sidelined with a injury,

this Fall these will be key to this years success as the RSFR/FR Moss, Cook, Bohanon, Pemsyl and Kreiner which some are already saying he will need 2-3 years before he will see the floor for meaningful minutes,

in my opinion 6'9 Cook and 6'10 Kreiner will both start as they will be the two tallest players on the team, as everybody else is 6'8 or shorter. with Cook being the highest rated player on this falls team,

remember White was a unranked 3* that none of the major teams in Ohio even gave a look and all he did his FR season was named a FR AA.

Fran has a good eye for talent at all the positions and it seem as though because Kreiner is from IA he can't be able to start.

This is good to hear. Without a true big man next season Tobey could have done some damage underneath. And obviously Brogdon leaving helps too.

There's more to BB than height kilroy.

Virginia also will have Memphis transfer Austin Nichols eligible next season. He is a stud and was one of the biggest transfers on the market last year

Totally forgot about him. Former 5 star recruit I think.

Providence is losing top 2 guys to the draft (one being potential lottery pick Dunn) and Memphis been trending down last few years and things aren't looking good for Josh Pastner their coach who was once considered one of the best young coaches. Could be a make or break season for him next year.

Lol. Who is this kilroy? I see kilroy mentioned on both the football and basketball boards, and I don't get the joke.

He's pretty easy to spot. Quotes a lot of heights and stars, lists stats with no context then comes up with off the wall opinions that contradict everything normal people see. As a bonus, he'll occasionally contradict the heights, stars and stats that he posts.

Yea.....he's pretty good. Next year is going to be a whole bunch of interesting for Hawks BB?? With Jok coming back up in the air....a really whole bunch.

I am just going to take this as it happens with Peter (?), PTL will be very interesting with the players coming back minus Hutton and Fleming and with the newbie frosh coming to campus this summer but still looking forward to PTL play. It's going to be a different day and age with the Hawks moving forward. It's really hard to project anything at this point but I do like a lot the players we have on campus compared to years past with the opp to add maybe one or two more players.....maybe?

We have some gaps but the collective athleticism with the group has imo the kind of strength, skills/talents and energy that makes great BB players. I hope they grab hold of the opportunity and are working very hard to become the best players they can be because they are going to need to quickly.

Better to play good teams and lose than beat bad teams.

I generally agree with this.......but, in a young team you have to develop confidence and continuity, which might need some cupcakes to get on that roll. If you can find some "cupcakes" with a reasonably good RPI that can be beneficial. That said, playing tough teams is very important for the benefits that those games provide for the growth of a team.

There will still be plenty of cupcakes on the schedule. It'll be good for a young team to play tough opponents before the conference season begins.
