Eric Grahm

You're correct that he didn't have any offers, but the reasons didn't seem to have anything to do with his ability. It seems as though Iowa probably got lucky. Maybe he'll never contribute, but he is a talent.

I suspect you are speaking in absolutes about something you know absolutely nothing about.
He's definitely a talent. IIRC, he was getting no offers because of academics or perceived not to be able to post a high enough score. I believe he got his academic house in order at the last minute.

The proof might be in the damn pudding, but the fact is we would have had better chances with the Michigan back than a back with no other offers. Now you can give me the canned talk about all hidden gems we find.
Just did some searching around the Michigan blogs. Could not find any mention of Higdon doing well. read about 3 upperclassmen and 2 early enrollee's at RB. I am hoping Graham shines in the next 3 years...before he bolts for the NFL.:D

I remember one of the talking heads saying he had the most "B1G ready" body he'd seen on a freshman. Maybe a move to FB with Toks and possibly Eno coming along with others in front of him. Who was the FB before Plewa/Cox? Black kid that was built pretty good before a leg injury?

There was another kid I was thinking of too. His first name was Kevin. I think he was from Florida and may have been a 4*. I think he may have lasted 2 seasons, maybe just 1. Never saw the field but we were all jacked about him. Can you recall that name?

The most recent was Jeff Brinson in 2012. Transferred to UCF.

Tore his ACL in two consecutive years..Last one was a career ender...Think he stayed with the team in a non playing/support staff role..
.

That explains it. He always seemed like a really good person. Thanks for the update Sig.

Why do you have to justify Higdon not doing well and implying Graham was a better get? The Hawks without question, wanted Higdon over Graham. Do you think Iowa will out-recruit Michigan this year? Iowa did very well last year in the West. They would not have done as well in the East. I am appalled that folks simply won't admit that Iowa has to recruit much better to have a chance to win the BIG championship.

I think everyone on this entire board hopes that following a Rose Bowl run, the opening of our state of the art facilities, and having one of the highest paid coaches in the nation, we can bring in higher rated running backs than 2 stars with zero offers next year. One can hope Graham contributes at some point in his career while still hoping that our RB recruiting is at least on par with the rest of the Big 10/ISU. The year we signed Graham, it was not.

You sound fun!

Not really.

Sometimes you win when you lose a recruit...it happens. Time will tell if that's the case but it looks like the coaches are very happy with Graham. No doubt we need to recruit better. That's been stated over and over around here. I believe we are doing better.

First, implying something by someone else is your biased interpretation. Second, recruiting is sometimes hit and miss...sometimes luck of someone staying healthy vs. someone who can't overcome injuries, or can't handle the academics. Not ragging on Higdon. Just saying we might have gotten the fortunate luck, or Higdon might blow up next year. Just saying.;)

Right, because they were so far away from winning it last year...

You mean like when 4 star Delano Hill ( a nice player) flips to Michigan and we go after a 2 star fallback recruit like Desmond King.

I wouldn't want to make a living off of that kind of success but then again I never get too emotional over HS recruits. I figure our coaches are exceptional at developing talent.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I don't think it's fair to say that "most schools" saw him as a DB or a RB. Prior to Iowa's last second signing day offer, the guy had no scholarship offers from anyone. Most schools saw him as a DII caliber player and pursued prospects that were more likely to succeed at this level...Iowa being one of them (until the very last second, when our RB commit backed out and chose Michigan).

I hope the kid succeeds, but he's a 2 star freshmen RB with tons of talented guys ahead of him on the depth chart and hopefully we land some higher caliber RBs in the next class who will also surpass him.
What a ridiculously horrible post. Just plain stupid!

I'm hearing from people in IC that Graham is walking on thin ice right now in regards to off the field stuff. He's been late to team meetings, missing class, and hanging out with the wrong crowd (staying out all night kind of stuff). I think we all (except maybe iowalaw) hope the kid grows up and does so quickly. I agree with others who like his videos and think he has some potential. However, unless he cleans up the off the field stuff, he may not be around come August.

Just a FYI......I haven't heard these allegations from IC. In an interview, he talks clearly and politely, sd he wanted to redshirt to better his transition. Also said his redshirt mentor was Jordan Canzeri and coach White. He talks about his scout team work and for someone like KF to be practicing and/or "that kind of kid" getting rep's in front of the coaches clinic and most recently 3 days ago....... this does not sound like a . problem child....IMHO. Maybe we all should all let this play out rather throw hear-say and/or alleged damaging comments out for the public consumption.

Are you thinking that rumors of being a party boy on a message board will damage his career at Iowa ? It's not like the kid is running for public office. If he does keep his nose clean I'm positive KF will ignore all the message board scuttlebutt's.

Graham had a problem with getting the required test scores this kept some of the school from offering and by the time he did most if not all already had their rides full,

Canzeri was a 2* and if he had stayed healthy might have set the all time record for rushing yards and Weisman could have been the FB leading the way, what a combination those 2 would have made, MW the FB with JC the RB, a dream scenario in most fans eyes and both were 2* players,

Wadley is another a players that IA fans want as the main RB and he is a 2* but he also was a 1st Team RB in NJ.

again not getting the right offers = low * rankings.

Bob Sanders was a 1st Team All State and a member of the Pennsylvania Super 33 All Star team, again only a 2*.

no big time offers = 2* rating.

2015 QB-Kyle Kearns...4 star prospect- offers from UC-Davis,SMU, and Wake Forest.....That is it.....I guess Rivals didn't get the memo that Kearns didn't have the "right" offers....

anybody can find the rare ones, but IA's 4* QB Weigers never got a offer from MSU or Michigan. and your point is What? that goes along with that point at the top of your head.

My point is you continually make blanket statements that end up being quite untrue...You know this...

I love the underdog. Guess that's why I went to Iowa. I believe Graham will make make all the nay sayers eat some shjt.
A burst to the hole like Canzeri, a little shake... and bye-bye.

IA had been recruiting Graham since April, but like others never offered because of the test scores, they stuck with him, talk was IA was going to sign 2 RB's, so Graham was never a fall back as the staff had been on him for 10 months.

academics were a issue test wise and it does keep most schools from offering, this was the case with Graham, he RS'd last fall and have these in front of him.
SR Daniels
RSJR's Wadley and Mitchell
RSSO Joly
then RSFR Graham incoming FR
Akinrabe, Young and Wade join them.

Wade is being talked about as moving to LB so Graham will/should get carries this fall and people who go to the spring scrimmage should get a real good look at him.

he is 1 or 2 injuries away from being a major contributor this fall. there are a number of FB's listed as well. but those are the only ones listed as RB's.

According to his high school coach...the first interest the Iowa staff had shown towards Graham was in late Dec/ early Jan..a few weeks before signing day. He stated it started with a phone call from Coach Bell...Later on ,Coach Wallace went to visit him an his high school for the first time..They then set up an official visit for the last weekend before signing day..According to his coach, this all started because of the chaos surrounding Higdon and Michigan's late involvement with him..

Graham is the epitome of a fall back recruit. He got offered the night before signing day once Higdon flipped.

Wrong. Again.

Last year you called Ferentz an idiot for not playing Wadley enough. Why is that relevant to this discussion? Because Wadley was a two star RB with no other offers, according to Rivals.

From your perspective, these seem to be the possible outcomes when it comes to Iowa football players:
  • Iowa signs high ranked player; highly ranked player performs well; Ferentz is dumb for not playing him sooner
  • Iowa signs high ranked player; highly ranked player does not perform well; Ferentz is dumb for not developing talent
  • Iowa signs low ranked player; low ranked player performs well; Ferentz is dumb for not playing him sooner
  • Iowa signs low ranked player; low ranked player doesn't perform well; Ferentz is dumb for not recruiting better
No matter the outcome, Ferentz can never win in your eyes.

I'll tell you guys something, this Ferentz-idiot must be one lucky son-of-a-bitch to have won two Big 10 Championships and have had five Top 10 finishes in his time at Iowa.

The above is good stuff. I'll confess some of you guys are extremely witty...that's the only thing that makes these sites tolerable.

Indeed Edu. I am no recruiting guru by any means but have watched enough vids and followed Iowa recruiting pretty closely for a while now(mostly on rivals) and it's hard being out here in the northwest but I know after watching Eric's vids I think this kid has some serious potential....you can tell that by watching him run in HS...I know it doesn't always translate to college but this kid runs nasty AND he can break tackles AND has another gear unlike a lot of RB recruits to come to Iowa in quite some time all in one package.....sounds like a really humble kid that will work his tail off and even if it was his only offer----he wanted to be a Hawkeye!...and to me that is more valuable than the number of stars you tote on your way thru the doors....it doesn't matter to me what you did before you get to Iowa city....it only matters what you do once you wear the black n gold....i think this kid will be special but, truth is he was my favorite recruit out of that class, so I guess I'm biased and I have 'bought in' on the legend that could be Eric 'golden' Graham....maybe I'm wrong but I love the underdog...which is why I'm a die hard Hawkeye fan to begin with.
Look at all the smack you talk about a kid that will never see the field for the Hawks. Smart guys like you never learn...smh

Talking smack? Maybe you should rested the post troll....not sure how that's talking smack...besides 'smart guy' do we know it's his lack of football talent that's keeping him off the field? And you have the time on your hands to go find old threads where I say I'm excited about the potential of kid and you wanna rake people over the coals cuz chances are it's his grades that are the issue? ....but hey I'll eat my crow and even say I'm still bummed cuz I WAS excited for this kid to get on the field and you just keep on bein the dbag you are...guessing this is BAU for you....you need a hobby friend. Take care.

Unfortunately, I was right on this one a few months back. Darn, a super nice kid who I was really pulling for. Best of luck to him in the future.
