Seriously? Jessica Mendoza I'm sure knows the game but she is terrible at broadcasting. I feel like we got Beth Mowinsed.

Because I care about the rules. And no i would not.

I like K zone being on the screen.

Mendoza doesn't add much to the broadcast, but I suspect she knows that her role isn't a big one.

I like how they worked Mendoza into the Sunday night crew. The problem is they have too many people they are trying to involve.

I automatically hate you. Why distract from watching the ball cross the plate? All you have to do is put it to the side like every other networks does.

When Curt Schilling got kicked off the ESPN MLB crew,
they decided to try and attract a more female audience
with Jessica. Basically, Shulman and Kruk are being
polite to her because they know a former MLB player will
be signed up for next season.

I am one who believes that the home plate ump might as well be sitting on a chair back at the backstop, ready to make calls on plays at the plate only. So, not only does K zone not distract me, I actually enjoy seeing umps get ball/strike calls wrong, with the hope that someday, the calls will become automated.

Hey I'm 100% with you on that. Home plate umps are terrible at balls/strikes, especially Joe West. I like the K Zone, just hate it hovering over the plate. I want to be able to clearly see the ball cross the plate and afterwards see where it showed up on the K Zone that's on the side of the screen.

I do see your point. I hadn't really thought of it before, but yeah, watching the last few pitches, I can see how it is a bit of a distraction. I think what I like best about ESPN's version is that it is actual size, so you can really see right where the pitch is. Not sure which network I am thinking of, but one of them has a box that is so small, it seems like an older video game where you just see which quadrant a pitch landed in.

At any rate, it will be interesting to see if the ESPN style remains or changes as the years go. What I always hope for is something like the NHL, where the ball can illuminate on the screen if it crosses through any part of the zone.

I got a chuckle a couple of weeks ago during a night game that involved the Dodgers. Doug Glanville was giving his rationale why Greinke should win the Cy Young.

Rick Sutcliffe, the other analyst on the broadcast, a former Dodger & Cub would have none of it. He told Glanville to put a sock in it and proceeded to give an impassioned rationale for why Arrieta was clearly the best choice for CY Young and NL MVP. He finished by condescending to Glanville to the effect, I know you're mad at me right now, but you'll thank me later. For a minute, I wondered if Rick was back on the sauce.

I forget who the lead announcer was for that game, but he kept his mouth shut the entire time Sutcliffe was going off.

I agree with Sutcliffe. Arrieta has basically been unbeatable since the all-star break and needs to be recognized for his brilliance. Not since Gibson in '68 have we seen such dominance.

On the plus side, I've been watching Cari Champion on the morning edition of Sports Center. They are making a serious effort to play to their key demographic recently. I appreciate that.

Going cheap with on air talent...cheap usually means bad.

Only going to get worse. And now you know why they bought into Draft Kings or whichever one that they're in bed with now (and regretting)...they need the money.

They should've let Chris Archer do the entire telecast last night. It was great when he demanded to return for another half-inning.
