I know it's a different level of competition but Even started at Belmont and had solid numbers. Iowa City kid who loves the Hawks. Great game tonight and really solid effort.

I said it after the Rutgers and Maryland games but I think we are a better team right now with the Dembele, Braun, Mulvey, and Tjado rotation down low than when we had Owen playing most of the minutes. We are little better on defense down low, a little better rebounding, and a little more physical. Not saying I dont like Owen, I do, but he got worn down too easily and he tended to play with a lack of effort and physicality at times. With him being the only post man in the game and playing like that it is impossible to win in a power 5 conference against good teams.

I feel like Fran probably should have tried the multiple big look when Owen was healthy instead of starting Harding and Thelwell together.

He’s athletic as shit, strong as hell, & undoubtedly our best all around player on both sides of the court.

Totally understand why he hasn’t played until recently.

It was nice to see him succeed.

As Hummel pointed out, Ladji has played better in recent games also.
Mulvey has chipped in as well.

This back half of the BIG schedule was always going to have Iowa as underdogs in every game outside of Sat UWash game so hard to measure progress but other than 2nd half vs MD the Hawks have been very competitive since Owen went down.

I wish Fran had rotated Even and Riley in more earlier in season giving Owen more rest.

I have to say the prior game, watching him try to move up and down the court or lane, it looked like he hurt or just very immobile (and could tell he and Harding rarely get practice time together), but playing against that 7 footer last night he did great.

For my money, I'd take Brauns over Freeman every day of the week. Even plays hard, and he plays smart. Freeman is as soft as Carver ice cream. Brauns was great at the line, played tough D, and battled on the boards along with pumping in 15 points. What more could you ask?

I just feel really bad for him, Payton, Josh, and the entire team. They scrap and scrap and scrap, had a great opportunity to pull that one out last night, but the basketball gods just will have none of it. Anyone who's ever put their heart and soul into something only to have it come up short can relate to last night in particular and this season in general.

Fran needs to be somewhere else next season, but damn, these kids deserve better results.

If you earn your minutes, then this is a no-brainer. Merit has no place in much of the US these days, but it could still be a thing for Iowa men's basketball. Brauns earned it. Plain and simple.

Stats and understanding what is going on. He knows his limits and plays within them. Others are taking shots that have a very low success rate for their ability. The moving screen calls are incredibly frustrating. He probably should have been playing the 4 with Freeman early on. He battles for rebounds.

* Traore then threw the ball to someone not looking for the ball. As Robbie Hummel said, you throw to eyes (Dembele was not expecting the ball and not looking Traore's way)

Payton was in tears walking off the court. Both he and Dix missed layups at the end.

Ok, but 16+ minutes with never being looked at on the bench again for the rest of the night???

Could have really used his athleticism vs another athletic team. Numerous times this season.
