You think Fran is likely to give that to Nimmers, or keep his options open?

It appears to be lining up that Nimmers gets that last ride, as many has suspected for some time.

Iowa hasn't been linked to any other portal transfers (aside from Grant Nelson but we're not getting him, substantiated by the Brauns announcement IMO) to my knowledge.

If so, that leaves us with a talented, yet relatively inexperienced, roster with a lot of new pieces next year. We have only 3 players with any meaningful experience as an IA Hawkeye. Krikke and Bruans are experienced but in a mid-major league of course. The rest are inexperienced, yet talented, Soph and Freshmen.

IMO, an NIT birth would be a solid result. An NCAA tournament bid would be a very impressive result.

I think Fran has to keep his options open. Nimmers has 4 years left.

Keep in mind that for 2024-2025, we now have 3 scholarships left. That could reduce to 1 if PMac and Tony use their free covid year. Do you think Fran wants to (or should?) use that final 2024 scholarship on Nimmers or do you think he should hold off?

That's a good point Fran. Giving a ride to Nimmers this year may not be an issue in and of itself but lock Nimmers in for 3 more years. That could be a problem for the reason you mention. He may want to hold off.

I believe the spring portal for basketball closes on Thursday. It's still possible we could have a departure, especially in light of this pickup and scholarship offer.

perfect...because the NIT is where we want to be. Should NEVER be happy under ANY circumstances to be in the NIT. NIT IS FAILURE!!!

I'm not suggesting we should be happy with an NIT result.

Rather, I'm indicating that I have a hard time seeing next year's team as an NCAA tournament team - and very possibly not even NIT bound. We're going to be inexperienced with a lot of new pieces next year.

this falls team return these as starters off last season
Pat RSSR
Perkins SR
Sanfort JR
1st ones off the bench
Bowen SO
Dix SO
the final 4 off the bench
Mulvey JR
walk ons Kingsbury RSSO
Lakata JR
Eldridge SR

that makes 9 players who saw playing time the team is not that young. the issue is finding the starters at the 4 and 5 spots

these are my starters

1 Bowen
2 Perkins
3 Patrick

after that it will be who fits the best. this year Fran has a lot of options to sort thru vs Last season
with just Kris and Rebraca to play the 4 and 5 in these
6'11 FR Freeman
6'9 FR Dembele
6'9 SR Krikke
6'11 JR Mulvey
6'9 JR Braun
that makes 5 players to play 2 positions

just don't see the need to add a 6th big, posters already complain that Fran to many in the past.

But they also get the European trip to gel. So hopefully they use the experience and it is an advantag.

Why are you leaving Iowa's most skilled and athletic player off this list?

Only 3 of the players saw meaningful minutes (20+); two others saw just under 10 minutes (much of it when the game was decided, especially in the case of Bowen (a leading candidate to start at PG)) with the balance of players you listed averaging 3-5 minutes (all in garbage time). I view that as inexperienced.

You actually left two players off of the list.

what were you saying about the 22-23 season?
I had us as a bubble team, leaning towards an NCAA tourney bid. About where they finished.

The previous year's team surprised me after they went on that massive run culminating in the BTT championship. I confess I didn't see that one coming mid-way through the season.

I hope I'm wrong but do have concerns with the inexperience of this upcoming year's team. There is talent there though, no doubt about that. This is a good year to have the European trip as another poster mentioned above.

This is a confusing reply but I'll try to decipher. I'm not complaining, I'm merely expressing concern about the inexperience as it pertains to B1G, high-major game experience. Particularly at the PG spot, perhaps the most important position in the college game. We have the talent, just not a lot of experience or depth. We stand a shot at post-season play though as I expressed earlier IMO.

Since it's too difficult for you to reference an Iowa Roster, I'll give you a hint. You left off two guards - both from the Quad Cities. Surely you can take it from there between that and the clues provided by ILLQCHawk and HoustonREDHawk. Good luck.

Maybe, but usually a walk on has to show something in actual games before he is given a scholarship. I hope Nimmers turns out to be really good, but that remains to be seen.

I'm optimistic. The Missouri Valley Conference is not a bad Conference for smaller schools as far as that goes so Krikke i expect close to 20 points a game. And Brauns isn't to bad either. We got 2 bigs from the portal. Not super stars being recruited by everyone but good players none the less. With Nimmers taking over for Uhlis we are NCAA tournament bound. We're going to be better than people expect. Also think uhlis left cause he lost his starting job to Nimmers next season.
