Ex Iowa Hawkeye QB found dead

I remember it was like '86 or '87 and I think Harlieb was injured and Dan McGuire was set to start the Michigan State game at East Lansing. We drove over there all keyed up for the game only to has Tom P end up starting the game and we lost. I think McGuire decided to transfer because Hayden had told the media he was to start all week then pulled the rug out from under him...





Tom Poholsky was a husband and a father of two children. He coached at Evergreen High School for three years. Poholsky worked with some of the players on his team since they were in third grade.

He was the first Hawkeye QB I ever saw play in person (home opener vs. Oregon in '89).

Ha! We wrote almost the identical personal experiences but mine was in the other thread.

But have to take issue with you on two things:

1) We won! Dave Yarima of MSU threw a pick to Simms, I believe, in the Iowa end zone to basically end their chances.

2) I don't remember seeing you there 😉.

Actually, he used to flat out mispronounce it, which the media made a little hay of. Think he was saying Pole husky, lol.

You're right! We did win and it was Vlasic who was injured. I swore we lost. All our games with MSU were close back then. Seemed like Lorenzo White was always killing us. I do remember Fry claiming all week that McGuire would get the start as TP was # 4...

Yeah, probably was Vlasic. That's the way I remembered it but in going over the dates today it didn't seem right for some reason.

Yep, Sparty for a long time usually found a way to lose.
