Must have been a real treat to get to watch them play in HS. I remember getting to see Tim Dwight play in HS. BEST HS PLAYER I EVER SAW.Being from Moline I've seen first hand how Brock and Owen play off each other, those two have been playing together for the last 4 years and are amazing to watch. They brought a first ever state title to a school that always has to buck the talent rich Chicago public and surrounding area schools. Those two are SOOOO underrated. I predict that before conference play begins Brock and Owen will both play a major roll in making Iowa the surprise team in the Big Ten.
You don't win the Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois without having a ton of talent and Owen who was first team all-state is, well.... amazing. Can't wait for the season to start!
This for me, too. I thought he had matured past most of his tantrums, but not so. Any time he is ready to retire, is 100% okay with me!I lost a lot of respect for Fran when he did that creepy stare-down to the ref. Put me down for a "4".
About a 2 honestly, this team on paper isn't very good and will be lucky to make the NIT. Who gets excited about maybe making the NIT? Nobody, that's who.
That was probably the best part of last season for me.I lost a lot of respect for Fran when he did that creepy stare-down to the ref. Put me down for a "4".
Iowa has been good on paper maybe 3 times under Fran and yet most of his seasons have turned out about the same.About a 2 honestly, this team on paper isn't very good and will be lucky to make the NIT. Who gets excited about maybe making the NIT? Nobody, that's who.
I get it. A week ago I said 10. Now I'm at a 10.25. Can't wait to get to basketball season.I'm at a 7.625. It would be a 7.7, but then I remembered that the BB defense is the identical twin brother to the FB offense and that dampened my enthusiasm a bit.
The “good on paper” is well put.Iowa has been good on paper maybe 3 times under Fran and yet most of his seasons have turned out about the same.
Paper means nothing in college basketball because the majority of the factors are unknowns.
Usually people make judgments based on who left which is irrelevant. What matters is how well the players you do have are going to perform.
This season will probably be more or less the usual Fran campaign. High floor but capped ceiling.
I’m a 10. I love Iowa basketball and enjoy watching it more than football. Fran always produces an exciting and entertaining style of ball and I genuinely like the guys he recruits.
This season is one of the more unpredictable years in recent memory, but Fran has consistently produced top half of the conference, tournament teams with All Big players and I kinda expect this year will be no different. One of these years we will break through to the 2nd round . . . Right?
I really hope you are right.Must have been a real treat to get to watch them play in HS. I remember getting to see Tim Dwight play in HS. BEST HS PLAYER I EVER SAW.
Could we please stop pretending that Garza and Wieskamp are good enough to get regular NBA minutes? It's disingenuous. During his tenure, Fran has had one player with enough skill and athleticism to crack an NBA rotation and that is Keegan Murray. Perhaps Kris Murray will increase that number to two (although at the moment he is buried on the bench of a probably lousy Portland team). Garza, Cook, Weezy, Uthoff and Marble have all technically made it onto an NBA court but they aren't "NBA Players" the same way that, say, Georges Niang or Monte Morris or Keegan Murray are. If we are going to throw around the "Fran can't even win with NBA players" argument we should keep in mind that he has really only had a player like that for one season (Keegan's final year). Now if you want to criticize Fran's inability to win head-to-head recruiting battles with other P5 programs (hence the lack of guys that can crack NBA rotations), that is fair game. But the last coach we had that could regularly land that kind of talent was George Raveling.Fran didn't do it with a team that had four NBA bound players Garza, Keegan, Kris, and Weezy on it at same time, so I would say he probably won't make a NCAA sweet16 because defense is an afterthought.
Hmmmm. So, when they got Garza, a big slow guy nobody had ever heard of you were excited. Also, when they got the Murray's, 2 players with absolutely no attention from anyone and whom those on this board swore were a waste of space you were excited. Got it.......... Yeah. Talk about a rewrite.5
Probably won’t make it to any games and will watch when it works with my schedule. My expectations are as low as they’ve been in a long time. No Garza, No Murray’s, there is no main attraction right now.
If Fran gets this group to the upper half of the league I’ll shocked.
But none of those 4 were "NBA-ready" "one-and-done" players. They developed over time, some earlier than others.Fran didn't do it with a team that had four NBA bound players Garza, Keegan, Kris, and Weezy on it at same time, so I would say he probably won't make a NCAA sweet16 because defense is an afterthought.
I'm kind of surprised by how many times I've seen the take "the big ten is loaded" the past couple days. Outside of the top 2 or 3 teams I think most of these Big Ten teams have a ton of question-marks. There's a reason as to why the Big Ten only has 3 teams ranked in the pre-season. I'd call the B12, SEC and BE loaded before I'd refer to the B10 as that this year.I would say a 4. The Big10 is loaded this year and once again Iowa will go where the 3 point shot goes. And until they play some semblance of defense, I will never be above a 5.
You’re really arguing that guys who have gotten multiple NBA contracts aren’t NBA players? THAT’S disingeuous.Could we please stop pretending that Garza and Wieskamp are good enough to get regular NBA minutes? It's disingenuous.
